Not a special game by Wes, by any means (hardly any games on film from that time period contain historically significant individual performances). But to my knowledge this is the first Wes Unseld full game highlight put up on YouTube.

On one hand Wes is overrated because he didn't deserve the 1969 MVP. On the other hand he often gets overlooked because his scoring stats are not much. He really did everything else on an elite level.

Great video!

One of my favorite sequences is the series of picks he sets on Earl Monroe at 3:25 than he takes him into the post because nobody switches and just bumps him right under the basket

Like I said I have the 1971 game on my DVR but would never know how to transfer that to youtube.

One thing I can never figure out about the Knicks vs Bullets series in 1973 is why the Knicks always put Debusschere or Lucas on Unseld and Reed on Hayes..Seems backwards to me.

My favorite Unseld memory of all time is when he was coach of the Bullets and there was a fight between the Bullets and Pistons and he went out there and throw Laimbeer into the basket support. I still remember Laimbeer looking shocked by it. I have always looked for it on yourtube but have never found it.

Is that game by chance a game where Earl Monroe does a spin and finishes with his left hand?

Man, I've not seen it yet, I've only seen a clip of Earl and Frazier watching that clip and talking about it from a MSG network commercial.

I take it you get MSG channel, and saw it there? Did they play back the entire game? I'd love to get my hands on that game sometime it'd be another great opportunity for "full game" highlights by players of that era which is really rare. Plus I was/am curious, did Gus Johnson play in that game? And if so, did he attempt any dunks, block any shots or do anything athletic?

Yes I saw it on MSG last week. I am sure they will be showing it again. Johnson did not play. The fate of the game was 2/28/1971.
