View Full Version : What is your team's #1 priority this offseason?

As crazy as it sounds, we need Josh Smith more than anything else this offseason.

He's played SF, PF, and C for us and brings passing, rebounding, defense, and 34% shooting from three.

His versatility allows us to run the break at an elite rate (3rd in fast break PPG) and move the ball in the half court (up from 20th to 9th in APG as a team compared to last season).

As bad as a rep he gets from the league, Josh Smith fits on the Rockets. We're playing winning basketball and that's all that matters for us, don't fix what's not broken.

I don't have a team but the #1 priority for the following are:

Lakers: draft for the future and sign a free agent for the long term. No get rich quick schemes.

Spurs: offer Leonard the maximum. It's his first shot at the big money, and young players almost always take the money.

Cavaliers: sign and trade Love for a more compatible player.

Etc.

I would like to see the Rockets do something with the PG position, Beverley lost a step defensively and he's basically just a spot up shooter. I like Nick Johnson, really good defender and can create offense better than Bev..maybe he'll eventually become our starter

McHale has worked miracles with him.

Im excited to see what kind of contract he's looking for. He may be a huge value get, if he wants to stay and win and play along side Dwight.

Caris Levert at #14.

Michigan player. 6'7" PG/SG. 38% 3pt shooter. Good potential defensively.

See him projected around 20, but hes missed all season, so his stock has dropped. I see him as THE guy to grab. He'd be a perfect fit.

First we gotta re-sign Brewer and Smith. They've been absolutely tremendous for the Rockets coming off the bench. They were the type of guys we needed last season BADLY. Beverley is a free agent too, but if we don't re-sign him, I won't really be mad. He does bring defense to the table and decent three point shooting but that's really it. No playmaking skills whatsoever. Rockets need to sign a legit starting PG who can actually defend, shoot, and make plays. We also need a good backup center. I think Clint Capela can fill that role nicely.

Raptors -

Beef up the front court. Hansbrough coming off the bench as our second sting 'centre' isn't gunna cut it moving forward.

A backup point guard who can plug in minutes with consistent play. Vazquez deviates from the team game and looks to get 'his' far too often. I don't need my backup 1 to be anything outstanding. Just solid, consistent, involves his teammates, moves the ball.

Depth at the SF position...

The team was owned by the NBA , the BA commissoner decided the deal wasn't the best for his team and did another deal to make the team he was selling more valuable in his opinion.

Need a whole lot of help :lol

After they draft one of the 2 franchise-changing big men, try to sign a capable PG. Do not really want Rondo but if he is the only one available, I guess I'll be OK with it but would much rather prefer Dragic. And a SG and C/PF to complement whoever they draft. Just don't sign anyone to max, I'm sure everyone agrees that Rondo is not a max guy anymore.

knicks:

FA:
- try to sign underrated players like goran dragic, robin lopez, ed davis, k. middleton.
No big name like aldridge (he'd be great), lebron (:lol ) will be ok with our tanking strategy.
- stay away from trash like brandon knight, j. crawford, monta, r. jackson, b. lopez,
- draft the best available talent.
- tank hard for another high pick
- s&t with amare and bargnani for whatever young talent/picks are available. Get picks for 2016/17/whatever. Stockpile.
- let melo chuck extra hard, he is a great tank commander

If Phil does this properly we'll get in the summer of 2016 with some capspace to sign a big time name, melo, some very good players like lopez/dragic, a 2nd year high pick and a rookie high pick. Make a run serious run at durant / anthony davis.

Let me break this down..

Dragic is not underrated. He is one of the better free agent options out there. Brandon Knight would be a great 3rd option after Rondo and Dragic, he is not trash. You can't S&T Amar'e when he's not on the team. No one want Bargnani's contract, so that's out the window. Denver owns the right to swap picks with NYK in 2016, so no good pick there unless Denver has a high one too. Melo chucking makes sense, who else is going to shoot the ball if you don't get Rondo, Dragic, Knight or Lopez? Durant will either stay in OKC or go to Washington. Davis, maybe.

Also, you called Lopez trash toward the beginning then called him a very good player toward the end.

let me break this down for you.

dragic is underrated, he got out of phx too easy. In this crowded market of PGs there are alot of people that value stats/athletes/potential over running a team. Compared to his actual value on the court he is a bit underrated.

brandon knight is a horrible basketball player that has great raw stats (advanced suck) because he is athletic and has the ball in his hands on horrible teams. He is not intelligent, he doesn't have a good feel for the game and he hasn't improved a lot in his years in the league but bad teams see an athletic big pg and think potential. His shot is also broken. He can't run a team, he isn't a scorer and he is not bright -> he is glorified trash.

i believe that 2nd round picks and 3&D athletes can be obtained from amare and bargniani. Trade them in the middle of the season for a salary dump for all I care. Just get these cancers out of ny.

denver will have a high pick in 2016. They don't have any player to develop right now.. I think only LA, minny and utah will be worse than them in the western conference. Also the EC will have alot of teams on the rise next year: a healthy heat, healthy indiana, growing boston, milwaukee and detroit...plus the cavs/atl/wash/toronto/chicago. Nets will be 30-something wins again and charlotte might improve. That leaves us with orlando, knicks and philly as clear cut bad records.
So that means both knicks and denver will have top 7 picks, which, independently of the swap, means very good talent will be available.

i didn't say anything about rondo, i wouldn't want him on the knicks and he wouldn't fit in the triangle. Never been high on him as a player, and as a locker room presence he can't be a plus after arguing with serious pros like ray allen and carlisle.

Don't know where durant goes. If he has any intention in winning something, he won't stay in OKC, that franchise is horribly managed. Washington might slip next year with an improved EC (cavs, ATL, toronto, chicago, healthy heat, healthy indiana) so they might not look so sexy in 2016.

Anyways, anthony davis would be my main target in 2016, hands down.

There are 2 lopez brothers. Brook lopez is trash while robin lopez is an excellent role player.

in 2016 knicks could look like this
dragic/ calderon
high pick wing / 3&D / hardaway
melo / 3 & D
anthony davis / ed davis
robin lopez / high pick big

That's a contender in the EC for '16 and beyond. While melo further ages the high picks would start getting more load.

by 2016 I mean summer before the 2015-2016 season, right at the draft. didn't pay too much attention on the date, my fault.

i thought the traded pick will swapped with denver for their pick if our pick will be higher. In another post I've reasoned that this swap won't be very relevant given the probable state of the league in 2015.

Amare and bargnani are still signed in 2015, so they might/should be traded then for cap relief.

Magic:

Let Payton work with the shooting coach (we have a good one) for a good while.
Same with Oladipo.
Get both to work on their finishing around the rim.
Get them to hang out a lot this offseason, they already do now, but more. More. Bonding, yay!
Draft the best player available wherever we draft.
Get Aaron Gordon off his phone and let him also work with the shooting coach and on his offensive game.
Take a good look at Channing Frye and think hard on what you did. Shame on you.
Let Harris roam around, get the best offer he can find. If acceptable, match it. If too high (Knicks), lol and move on.
Teach Harkless a lesson. Asking a cute girl for her phone number does not equal stealing phones from strippers.
Somebody needs to do something bad to Vucevic, like, break a taillight on his bike or something right in front of him. He needs to up his toughness.
Let O'Quinn grow his beard out. Let it grow, let it grow.
Shove Willie Green into a crate, screw it shut, ship to China.
Hold a farewell parade for Luke Ridnour at Downtown Disney.
Teach Dedmon the art of fouling less.
Sign someone.
Get a coach.
