Anyone know any chess engines available for free download?

I tried doing a google search but a lot of the ones say that they're free, then you click through a bunch of links and at the end it asks you to make a payment to get your first week free or something.

Anyone know of any good ones available for free? Not asking for a way to freely download ones that are intended to be paid for. Just asking if there are any that anyone knows of that are given away as shareware?
