to a T

both had one-of-a-kind talent that was perceived as futuristic.

both had so much promise with a lone Finals appearance early in their careers... but then.... nothing but disappointment for the rest of their careers.

Partially realized. He deserves to have a full healthy career so we can see just what he could have really become.

Wade is a great example. He was an incredible player at his peak and though injured often have a reasonably long career as effective. However Wade without his injures to his knees and nothing but strains and twisted ankles could have been otherworldy.

Most of us worried the same of Curry's glass ankles but effective surgery and treatment has given him the chance to become great.

Durant was already great, I just want him to have a chance to really make people revere him as a basketball player like Magic and Bird.

i think we have different opinions on potential/promise. Both wade and durant became their draft expectations and more. Both gms were happy with their choice and would do the same thing again even if their careers were over today. Imo thats realized potential.

I see your view and it is accurate.

I just think of how Larry didn't play as long as he could've and how back issues potentially changing the careers of Isiah and MJ. Had Larry a few more years or greatness he could be looked at totally different.

I just think more of achievement potential than just greatness potential.

Durant was the best player on his team to the Finals and peaked much higher than Penny.

Penny was great, but Durant is better and has had like 7 seasons behind him, of which at least 5 on all star level and 3 at all time level.

So there is really no comparison.

Perhaps Grant Hill is the better comparison.

Though I think that Durant is better than Hill also.

McGrady literally had 1 great season and was nowhere near the same player any other year. Durant has had 4 or 5 seasons better than any McGrady season sans 2003.

Also since when is Durant's career over? People act like he tore his ACL or Achilles, he's out for 1 year big deal. I guess Jordan's career was over after his broken ankle, right?

Do you think he's gonna be the same player next season?? A 26 yrs.old Lebron was healthy.

And once Lebron was surrounded with MVP and all star talents he won back to back NBA titles.

Nobody is going to criticize him if he wins at least 5 NBA titles. Magic Johnson was 5/9 in the NBA Finals.

We have no idea what will happen with Durant, but his injury is nowhere near as serious as a serious leg injury whether it be broken leg or torn ligaments. I see no reason he can't come back just as strong, this isn't something that can't heal. Jordan broke his foot and came back no problem, he just needed time to rehab

Players better than Penny in 1996: Jordan, Shaq, D-Rob, Dream, Malone

And this is leaving off players with decent/ good arguments over him like: Pippen, Barkley, Stockton, Payton, Grant Hill, Kemp

Players better than Durant in 2014: ???

Players with decent/ good cases over Durant in 14: Lebron

Maybe from a popularity standpoint you can compare the 2(I'd argue Hardaway to be more marketable in his day).

DRose & Penny's first 3 years in the league are very simular, as was their promise/potential.

If Durant's prime years were done today he'd still have had a longer prime career then Penny, so it's not a great comparison.
