i'm just wondering since i don't really watch or follow what they do other than spin records and generally being music enthusiasts. I'm talking the top DJ's who are making millions a year, are their skills that much more unique than everyone else at their craft??

its like this profession blew up out of nowhere, where every young person dreams of becoming one, and looks up to them like they're the most talented people on the planet all of a sudden.

and i'm sitting there thinking how hard is it to spin records and be into music? :confusedshrug:

at least DJ's back in the day would scratch shit up and make all kinds of mixes.

and don't spazz on me music fgts, i'm more curious than trying to dog DJ's of today.

short answer yes.
It's like any other job in the arts, at the bottom of pyramid, you make zero and you might even lose money doing it. At the top, you're well compensated.

They are being paid for their effect on the crowd. If they aren't good at that (and staying ahead of what moves a crowd), then they don't stay at the top.

I would assume for a top DJ a ton of work goes into it before you in front of a crowd.

No.

It's mostly to do with personality, playing the club circuit right and - in most cases - having a unique/identifiable set. At least if you're talking about the revered DJ's who make it, not just the dudes in Ibiza who make a lot of money playing the exact same things played in some random club in Manchester.

You probably have a better shot at becoming a Pro athlete than being a Pro DJ.

Sure but as with anything when it comes to music only .00000000001% actually make it. Producing original music is a MUST.

No.

How do disc-jockeys make the world a better place?
-they dont. They only contribute "entertainment" to the world, which we have more than enough of, and people would be better off bettering themselves rather than being entertained

They are respected for their music and putting on a good show just like anyone else... This stuff isn't new I mean Moby, Paul Okenfold, Tiesto, Daft Punk... been around for years. These guys are basically producers that DJ.

My cousin does it around the college he goes to. He says the money is insignificant for the time and effort put into it. Says he does mainly for the atmosphere, free drinks, but mostly it's for the girls.
