Their win percent had them well on the way to 50 games in a normal season...

Regardless, what's most impressive is that in the the second lockout (66 games) they still ended up winning 50 games in 2012

I know, I was just posting the :biggums: as 37 games won is a crazy number for a season, in this case a lockout.

In my eyes it is 18th straight very good regular season.
This is what a team should be and what clever management is supposed to be.
Even with a few mistakes (no one is invinsible to it) they made, they have the foundations/core to overhelm them - in two words "remarkable consistency", which only few sports team have ever achieved.

But don't get me wrong - there will come the time when Poppovic and Dunkan (add Ginobili and Parker's advanced age) will not be with the Spurs anymore and I am afraid that this franchise will suffer greatly, it is not possible to maintain such a level for so long time. So Spurs fans should enjoy and appreciate as much as possible what they have at the moment.

That beautiful ball movement and brilliant teamwork are boring? I guess chucking up shots against multiple defenders excites you. Winning excites me - not selfish, chucking, LOSING basketball.

It's one of the greatest accomplishments in team sports history. This Duncan/Pop run since day 1 is up there with any run in team sports history in my opinion.

Some teams have been more dominant and won more, but the combination of sustained success over nearly 20 years now is just truly amazing.

No team in NBA history has come close to this kind of success over such a long period (outside the Celtics...different era)....winning 5 titles and over 50 every year.

I think 10 or more 50 win seasons in a row has only been done by Magic's Lakers, Dirk's Mavs, Russell's Celtics, and Duncan's Spurs.

And I think the previous record was Magic's Lakers with 12 in a row.

Just unreal...

Duncan about to move up to 3 on my all time list...

I was about to post something similar. Truly incredible in the age of free agency and taking talents to ideal situations, Duncan has stayed put and compiled a truly elite career. He is top 5 for sure if they win this year.

They won't.

But they do have Leonard. And he's a guy that if he's in the right situation will be about as valuable as anyone in the league outside of Lebron and Anthony Davis.

Leonard, Parker, and a big time free agent has the makings of a good to great team depending on who you surround them with. No idea who that free agent/star will be, but they'll get someone to build around.

How is winning 37 of 50 games in a depleted lockout season biggums worthy?! The **** are you on

Depending how you rate the lockout year (I rate it in context and should be respected), we're probably not going to see this anytime soon from another organization.

Cheers on a fantastic run.

Duncan retiring is not the problem. Pop retiring is.

Spurs are done when Duncan retires.

We'll always be a Playoff team with Pop, but we won't be a serious title contender after Duncan, unless we somehow snag Davis or Gasol (0% chance of happening).

That said, I doubt he's retiring after this season.

If they can beat Houston both games in their upcoming back to back it would be Huge. Wouldn't that give the tie breaker for the division?

Yup. It would also potentially put either San Antonio or LAC in the 2nd or 3rd seed. Which is crazy because they've been bottom seeds all season.

As somebody who's born, raised, still living in SA since '85, and watched the disheartening seasons in the 90's, the coaching turnover, and lack of a complete championship worthy roster to surround robinson with... it's nice to see the sustained success capped off by 5 championships.

Man I will tell you right now. I miss the fvck out of SA. I don't care what anybody says, San Antonio is an awesome city. I didn't really realize how much I loved the city until I left. I've been to many different sporting events, at many different venues, and nothing replaces the feeling of being in the AT&T Center for a Spurs game. I can't compare the energy to anything else. I've only been a Spurs/basketball fan since '01. I don't really remember anything before that, not MJ, not the Robinson spurs, not the Jazz, the Rockets, nothing. The Tim Duncan Spurs are the only thing I know, so I'm a bit spoiled. But still it's been one hell of a ride.
