Look, Bill Simmons has a point. Thunder got so caught up in getting value for Harden, they forgot the most important thing - trying to win a title.

He's right. Try to win a title that year, worry about Harden's free agency in summer.

That's why the Spurs management are better than the OKC managament. Can you imagine them trading Manu Ginobili when he was hitting his prime??

does simmons realize that OKC were at their best when there was only durant on the floor. Their greatest mistake was choosing westbrook for jackson. I would even chose harden over westbrook.

Simmons wont let it go. hes still upset the Spurs go to draft Duncan even though Boston had the worst record. He brings it up every time the Spurs are in the playoffs.

this cracked me up

Which current NBA franchise seems like the safest bet to become a dynastender and possibly even a dynasty? Here’s a hint: It’s not Oklahoma City. Miami already has two Finals appearances and one title, as well as the best basketball player in 20 years. They could easily rip off four or five straight titles … you know, assuming LeBron keeps himself motivated and actually stays in Miami. (I have my doubts.) There’s a remote and semi-alarming possibility that LeBron could cruise to two more Miami titles, switch teams in 2014 (when his contract ends), rip off two or three more titles in New York/Cleveland/Los Angeles/London/wherever and become the NBA’s first player-centric dynasty.

(So if you’re scoring at home, we’d have Russell’s Celtics, Jordan’s Bulls, Magic’s Lakers and LeBron’s LeBrons. Doesn’t that sound horrifying? Let’s hope he doesn’t read this column and decide it’s a good idea.)
:lol

Lets go back to that part about OKC not willing to pay Harden 15M/. Because that is currently < the cost of guys like Chandler Parsons, Brandon Knight, etc.

I agree with this.

I like Simmons. The trade hasn't worked out great. But Simmons has reveled way to much in being "right" about it. For a guy who tries, and claims, to be sort of pseudo analytically bound, he just won't cop to the process at least being thoughtful. If Harden stays, he's not the same Harden. He dominates the shit out of the ball. They've built the offense around him in Houston to the point of his ball dominance being completely vital. And there's plenty of point to be made that rather than trying to play with three ball dominant guys may not be as smart as trying to diversify your talent with a few more defenders, rim protectors and rebounders, and straight spot up shooters to space the floor. Now some of those guys haven't worked out very well, but to me that's a different issue regarding talent evaluation and development.

I personally would've tried to have kept Harden, and talked him into being a dynamic bench player like Manu. But it irks the shit out of me that Simmons is unwilling to admit that the trade had some real life common sense to it. And using Harden >>> Lamb + Steven Adams isn't really an argument that means much to me.

Simmons is captain hindsight. He never brings up the multitude of things he's wrong about.

It's easy to look back at a move that went bad and laugh and call the GM a stupid idiot. He's like that one effeminate kid that's in everybody's high school that is really good at talking sh*t about people. You all know what i'm talking about. Simmons is that guy of the basketball world.

Completely agree with Simmons. One of the worst trades ever. You don't tamper with a nucleus of players ages 23 and under that improved every season to the point where they made the finals ESPECIALLY in the western conference.

You have a bunch of teams killing themselves every season to get that level and OKC just threw it away. Same thing with the 2012 Mavs.

Simmons isn't wrong. When you have a chance to be a dynasty type team you don't cheap out over a few million bucks.

Bill Simmons and harden have something in common that makes Simmons unable to see why it was a good trade

They are both unbearable fvkboys of the highest manner

You don't want that on your team no matter how good he is at drawing fouls or being pure trash in the playoffs
