dumb consumers, the less we talk about this garbage the better
Only thing I was interested in was Google glass and tbh that shit probably would make me get a headache and nausea
I get it in principle. It's useful to be able read notifications, call, navigate your music etc while your phone is in your pocket. It's just too bad it's large, ugly and can't hold a charge for a day.
It's a toy, not a watch.

It, like other smartwatches are meant as a companion to smartphones.
One reviewer (https://techpinions.com/my-first-week-with-the-apple-watch/39543) mentioned that a computer is something you use for hours, a phone is something you use for minutes, a smartwatch is something you use in seconds.
It's small bits of information or actions that will allow its users some convenience.
I've read people complain about why need a smart watch, while others have pointed out different scenarios in which it is useful, it isn't for everyone that's for sure.
And NO I won't be buying one.
I do think that the smart watch will evolve into something more useful and powerful. We will see some apps (for all platforms) that really make them useful.
Apple (and others) have already showed how it can be an useful tool to track one's health, so there are some benefits to having a smart watch aside from just telling time.
Or are watches in general frowned upon as well?

The idea is great, unfortunately the implementation leaves a little to be desired.
My understanding is that the watch requires the phone to work(it's tethered) which makes no sense to me. What if I'm just out jogging? or dont have pockets? Or simply dont want to take my phone?
The watch by itself is such a great idea, it's little alerts..'hey' from your friend mike, or 'there's an event nearby at the ritz', the weather..
The watch(regardless of apple being the brand or not) presents an elegant way to live in a sensor driven world, unfortunately the amount of technology(just the phone) required to make it work is too much.
As a consume who has the option to buy this product, id want to wear just it and let information come to me.

I'm sure it will eventually evolve to be used beyond simple notifications but watches are kind of an anachronistic style piece in my mind. Maybe that will change as wearable tech becomes more of a trend where the watch can replace exercise monitoring bracelets. I'm sure it will be a good way to track health, sleep patterns, etc as well as convenient notifications in the future.

i'd like a smart watch, this is why:
Most days I am in meetings or hearings for the bulk of the day.
During these meetings and hearings my phone goes off constantly. It's very rude for me to pull out my phone and see who has called or texted. It looks like i'm disinterested or don't care. Not a good look.
It would be nice to just glance at a watch and see what's going on.

Being tethered however is the best option for now.
There is a few that are tether free, but I believe it has many limits.
I think they'll be great 2 years from now, as storage size decreases, and battery life increases.
and theres the whole 3G connection to receive data concern.

No it's not. It's far less intrusive and rude.
One can also filter and customize alerts to minimize how often has to check.

I expect health purposes to be a big reason why smart watches will gain traction.
There will be apps and watches that will monitor one's heart, breathing, and create alerts, providing in depth information, and send alerts to emergency contacts.
Imagine if someone has a heart attack and the phone sends an emergency alert and saves that person's life?
I'm sure there's devices that do some of this, so this will be the next evolution of these devices.

Then get yourself a Pebble. Same functions at a smaller price.
Apple iwatch is 350 for a standard model. I just simply think that's ridiculous. So basically ranging 350 to 400 depending on tax for the lowest model available? Nahhhhh

i was really just talking about a smart watch in general. I don't tend to buy 1st gen products so I probably won't get this iteration of the iwatch. I think it's a splurge at this point and even though I could deduct the expense i'll probably hold off for a generation or two.
But I do use a mac mini, a macbook air, and have an iphone. I appreciate the superior reliability and user interface of apple products generally and don't mind paying a premium for them.
My partner has this $1k+ microsoft surface tablet that sucks donkey balls and has tons of issues. My receptionist and partner both use windows 8 computers that often have issues like the search function not working and having trouble communicating with our network drive. Sometimes paying a higher price for something to avoid headaches in the future is worth it.

I thought the smartphone was unnecessary when it first came out. Why would I need to surf the web when I have a computer? Why would I need to take a picture with my phone when I have a camera? Why would I need to listen to music on my phone when I have an ipod?
I thought the iPad was a glorified huge smartphone when it came out. Why would I need an iPad to read books or surf the web on a huge smartphone?
I thought the Note was a huge bulky phone and could never see myself carrying something so large around.
Nowadays I reserve judgement for these sort of innovations. Will I buy an iwatch? Probably not in the near future. But if the battery life was increased and the functions were expanded I could see myself getting one.

See, I would agree, but for the opposite reasons. I find it very functional and ideal to have all of these items in 1 device, additionally I have no reason to buy an ipod, camera, gps for car, etc because all of these items I already have.

I agree, but I was trying to say that once upon a time I thought alot of these innovations were gimmicky but today I own all of aforementioned things. I love my smartphone and would never buy a simple phone again.
For now I'm holding my reservations against the iWatch because I don't see how I could use it but give it a few years and I could be sucked into purchasing one.

I'm in the same boat really. My coworker has the S-gear watch that works independently of the Samsung phones and she loves it. She's also a QA manager that deals with 20+ customers and 10+ staff, so it makes sense to buy something like that to save precious seconds. I've considered it for similar reasons but I still can't completely justify getting something like that (I had my heart set on the Moto 360 but nah).
I did benefit a lot job-wise by upgrading to the Note 4. That's good enough for now. I'll see what the next generation of smart watches brings before I consider it again.

ewatches are corny to me, and will never be practical until you can do that minority report holographic interface stuff off of it. trying to type and use the interface off of that tiny screen is its biggest weakness that can't be overcome until a huge jump in tech.
glasses on the other hand, if done right, could be the future and even take over phones.

They're not meant to type on.
There was a very corny but overall good video made by Samsung which I posted a while ago, showing how a watch can be very useful and at times the best option.
I think we're gonna see some innovative apps in the very near future that will make us rethink what the possibilities are.

I like the idea but something like this I would only really use in certain scenarios. I wouldn't want to switch my watch with this at all.
Would use it like a remote while listening to music.
Check notifications in situations where you wouldn't want to be see taking your phone out.
Use it while working out to measure vitals.
That's about it. Won't pay $400 for the iWatch. I rather have fewer features and pay less.

So, I got an Android Wear for Christmas. Just a toy to play with, really.
Things I like about it:
Quick glance to see a text/email, who it was from, and the content, without having to unlock my phone or even get it out of my pocket.
Shopping lists and whatnot popping up on it when I arrive at the shopping location, again, so I don't have to fish into my pocket to get my phone out, then type in my code, unlock, pull down notification bar, click on my list.
Essentially it's just a toy though, really. I cannot justify spending any money on it or at most maybe $50 bucks for the slight convenience.
Most fun part is getting custom faces. Had a cool "Duck Hunt" face with ducks flying, the stupid dog laughing, and it used the gyroscope to move a little rifle crosshair around the screen when looking at the time. Had a cool Pac man face too... little Pac man chasing ghosts as the second hand.

Although Im not planning on getting one (at least not the 1st gen) I gotta admit, they're starting to look more and more intriguing.
I saw them in person the other day and they look great. I saw some pics online and the pics certainly don't do them justice.
There are gonna be some great apps/functionalities that come with these watches. I've already seen things that can be done that I didn't think about, developers will come up with new useful (https://workflow.is/on/your/wrist) and fascinating (http://appleinsider.com/articles/15/04/13/webmd-careevolution-other-firms-announce-healthcare-apps-for-apple-watch) apps.

I'm okay with over-paying for a nice luxury smart watch, but not if a newer model will come out in the next year.
Not that I can easily afford it but, for $17,000 I can get the iWatch Edition plated in gold that will depreciate to $10,000 or so in a year. Meanwhile I could also buy a Tag Huer or spend a bit more for a low end Rolex that would signal more status than an iWatch and keep its value for decades.
At this point the iWatch makes you overpay for technology as well as for perceived status.

These watches aren't geared towards watch officionados tho. So
They're more of a status signal for the masses (pop culture). So devaluation isn't something they're worried about.
I'm also assuming that most of that targeted audience wouldn't be concerned with the price. It'll just be another toy for them, and will buy the 2nd gen two years down the road (they won't have annual iterations like their other products.... At least according to rumors)

I don't get the disdain that most of you have towards smartwatches.
I don't have an iPhone, but I do have a Pebble that I use with my G3. Absolutely love it. I'm juggling projects for three different clients right now that I swear give bonuses based on how many e-mails their employees send a day. (I just counted....82 e-mails on my work account today :oldlol: ) Not to mention my company as well. Plus with my calendar events, texts, calls, personal e-mail and stupid shit like Facebook/Snapchat/News, I'd be obnoxious if my phone rang every time I got a notification. And on vibrate, I pull my phone out of my pocket every time it rings and my abysmally short attention span gets me lost on Reddit, or ESPN. So I keep my phone on silent, and I get the notification on my watch...a quick glance at my wrist tells me if it's something that needs immediate attention, or if I can ignore it for later.
Not saying it's so hard to pull my phone out of my pocket, but it's convenient as **** to not have to.

Smart watches are still in their infancy, so some see them as 'toys' or useless.
But as they gain mass adoption we'll see different uses that are more than just for convenience. We've already started to see some good uses for them mostly health related.
