Phoenix Suns twin forwards Marcus and Markieff Morris have been accused of felony aggravated assault but no arrests or charges have been filed, police told The Arizona Republic.
The twins, along with three other men, allegedly attacked Erik Hood, a former professional basketball player, in January after they thought he had sent their mother "inappropriate" text messages, according to the report. The Morris twins have denied any wrongdoing and say they do not know the alleged victim. Their mother has also denied knowing Hood.
According to the report, Hood told police that he had mentored the twins and supported them financially when they were in high school in Philadelphia. He told police that the text in question said he'd always be there for their mother, but he believed the message was misinterpreted into something of a sexual nature.
Hood told authorities that he and a woman were leaving a sports complex in Arizona when they were allegedly attacked by Julius Kane, whom Hood believes told the twins about the text message. Hood tried to flee but was allegedly attacked again by Kane and another person. He said he was attacked by five people, in all.
Hood later identified Kane and the Morris twins as three of the five alleged attackers. Witnesses told police that they saw five people leave in a Rolls-Royce Phantom but could not identify any of them.
Markieff Morris reportedly told police he and his brother were at the facility during the alleged altercation because they sponsor one of the teams but denied any wrongdoing.
