View Full Version : If Kawhi Leonard wins FMVP again, is he the best player in the league?

I'd say so. DPOY defender with a selfless attitude, hard work ethic, low ego, still improving but already polished and well rounded offensive game, great rebounder....

He'll def be ahead of Durant All-Time no doubt.

He'd be the best player on a championship team. Probably the best SF behind Lebron and KD, assuming he plays well enough to win the award. Wouldn't call him the best in the league, just like Chauncey Billups almost winning back-to-back Finals MVP's wouldn't have put him up there.

Chauncey Billups didn't impact the defensive side of the floor the way Kawhi Leonard does. LeBron is still considered by most as the best player in the game and he couldn't do ANYTHING vs Leonard in the Finals last year.

I agree, of course, but had Billups won Finals MVP in 04 and 05 it'd be a similar question of "how do we rank this guy?" imo ... Granted Kawhi has all around game for sure, large impact on both ends... I'd still take Lebron though, idk

great username btw

No that's just stupid. He's a 16-17 ppg guy who isn't really a playmaker, idc how good his defense is he isn't even a top 5 player on the season regardless of what happens in the playoffs.

Dude has not even been an all star yet , or made an All NBA team (2nd team defensive only).

He's getting real good fast though.

Joke thread. The guy is very good, but at this moment the Spurs system is what makes him good. He will never be a go-to guy. If Spurs win it all, I can see one of 5-6 players on that roster being the FMVP.

Last 20 games hes averaged 20 ppg in 31 mpg on 61 TS%

And he STILL hasn't been given the green light that some feel he should be given

this, but this is such a polarizing, instigating, troll-ish thread.

why would spurs winning make him the best player? very few teams are in position to even contend. SA is probably in the top 5. that doesn't demote the other superstar players in this league.

i know there's a lot of fence sitters on kawhi. to call him a system player just isn't fair.

he is currently the spurs best player. he's not close to being the best player in the league and that is completely fine. you can make an argument that he's top 10 especially if he keeps it going into the playoffs. dude is young and playing within himself. an elite defender that could top out at 24 ppg or so. add to the fact he plays the game the right away. low TOs, doesn't get ticky tack fouls and doesn't complain on the other end whilst losing his man while being super efficient. just a workhorse teammate. even if he doesn't completely become a #1 option, he will be one of the best ideal #2's in the league.

at this point, his only real weakness is passing. not that he can't but it's his weakest point especially full court vision. if he can create steals while passing in a fast paced offense, he cold be devastating. just needs to improve his passing overall.

also, compare the spurs record w/ him out of the lineup and to when he was healthy again.

SA is also starting to realize his post ability and his isolation skills continue to improve. when his PNR ball handling skills catch up, he will be even more of a problem on switches

kawhi's stats have progressed very nicely over the years...

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/stats/_/id/6450/kawhi-leonard

Per 36 this year he is putting up 19/8/3, playing great defense, playing efficient basketball, he is only going to get better, has proven to be a bigtime playoff performer, and has a chance to have two FMVP's at age 23....

i dont care about those things anymore the media holds grudges.I know damn well that kobe bryant was the best playing in the league for like 4 or 5 years yet he only won 1 mvp while steve nash won 2 that shit means nothing

Kawhi is a great player but is he better than LeBron, Durant, Curry, Harden, Westbrook, CP3, AD, Klay, Kyrie, Pau, LMA or Dame?

Tony Parker got FMVP a few years ago, does that mean he was the best player in the L that year?

Kawhi is a great player and was dominant in last years Finals, but he is on the best coached team in the NBA full of HOF players and stepped up big.

When Kawhi can be the sole option on the future big 3 less Spurs in the future and put up serious numbers and wins then we can talk about where he stands.

No, he wont
Unless he put an ATG playoff run and continues in that level next year.

He has the potential to be one of the best, but not a dominant superstar. That will be AD.
