And as it so happens that ESPN just posted a big article on Curry worked on his defense this year. Steve Kerr and his assistants challenged Curry to be a better defender and came up with some new schemes for him. (http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12648764/how-stephen-curry-developed-top-flight-defender)

And to the surprise of many, it has more than worked. Thanks to some clever new defensive principles, and despite his spindly frame, Curry has blossomed to become one of the NBA's most effective defenders -- ranking fifth among point guards in defensive real plus-minus. According to Synergy Sports, the opponents he guards have shot just 36.8 percent on the season. He's averaging a career high in steals and a career low in fouls.

He's even frustrating top-caliber opponents. Who knew that the stronger-looking Russell Westbrook struggled with Curry defending him this season? In three games against Curry, Westbrook shot far below his averages, at 32.9 percent from the field and 26.3 percent from deep.

It also points to how much coaching plays into player's performance.

He's improved his defense 100% but don't worry, he won't be guarding Westbrook for the majority of the games (if OKC is the the 8th seed). That dirty job will go to Klay. Steph would foul out if he tried to cover Westbrook for more than 8 mins :oldlol:

Defense is a team component as well. Let's be honest Curry could be a bad defender and when he has Green, Bogut, Klay, and Iggy backing him up still come out with nice defensive stats. You can go for more steals or play more agressive when you have shot elite blocking behind you. Put Curry on a team with Al Jefferson protecting the rim? Hahaha. Would be embarrassing.

That said, Curry has clearly been really good defensively this year. You dont need stats to show it although they show the same thing. Harden has been good defensively as well despite his matador reputation. Curry has all the makings of an MVP except raw number totals. But you cant deny all the other things so give him the damn award.

The article goes into detail about team defensive schemes and Curry's role within them.

Curry is no god at defense, but he is sufficient enough that it isn't worth criticizing.

He's really not a good defender at all but the team covers for him. Bogut is good at making sure that guard doesn't get to the rim.

The only point guards that hold their own for the most part are Westbrook, Conley, and Chris Paul. Beverley is really overrated if we're being honest. Every elite guard torches his ass.

Chris Paul is amazing in the clutch. His team helps him a ton but in the 4th of a close game he will smother you.
