I've always felt that Wilt was the better player - he didn't have the sky hook, but he was just as skilled as Kareem.. I think Wilt is EASILY the vastly superior player, and I will get to the (very simple) reasons for this later.
But I'm going to invent an argument for Kareem first, just to play devil's advocate... Here goes - to me, Wilt's problem was that his first inclination when he caught it on the post was to try to overpower - this causes the big man to take longer than he otherwise would - teammates get in a habit and mentality of "ok, Wilt's got it, we have to let him do his thing."
When Kareem caught it on the post, he wasn't taking a couple seconds to see if he could overpower his man - he would go straight into one of his moves, probably the sky hook.. I believe his teammates could better anticipate what he was going to do, so they could keep moving and stay engaged.
This is not something you overtly notice on every single possession, but over the course of a game, teammates can get into a rhythm playing off Kareem better than Wilt.
Now back to reality - there might be some truth to the previous argument for Kareem, but in reality, Kareem played with all-time great guards (Oscar, Magic) and that's the only time he ever won anything.. And other than the skyhook specifically, there's nothing Kareem could do that Wilt couldn't do much better.
The stats tell the story - Kareem's best statistical year was 1972 - he averaged 35/17... Just 6 years earlier in 1966, Wilt averaged 34/25.. Unless you think the game drastically changed between 1966 and 1972, Wilt is better than Kareem by a wide margin.. And obviously, Wilt's seasons before 1966 destroy Kareems stats by a very wide margin..
Wilt's the GOAT - give both players equal supporting casts, and Wilt's teams would be far better - he just never had those supporting casts - he never had a Kobe, Magic, or Oscar to play with.. Imagine if he had..

Except he DID have a Jerry West :wtf:
Not too long, but 1969 was clearly winnable. West still led the NBA in assists in 1972.

Thanks for the reply, I'm almost surprised at the lack of responses thus far. So your opinion is appreciated. You're an MJ guy, and you're busy doing your thing trying to show this generation of fans just how good MJ was/the rules he played under.
People seem to get annoyed with you, but from what I've seen so far...In comparison to the guys who bring up ring counts and other stupid bullshit... you're a breath of fresh air
In regards to this topic, I completely agree. I happen to think Kareem was a bit more fluid with his moves, but they're different moves so I can't comment too much on that. Plus Im in mobile so its kind of a paun to type this qay :lol
All I know is that with his physical gifts, and all around game he's likely better than anyone. Even MJ, my childhood favorite

Not sure if their egos could coexist, but those two together is unimaginable.
On a side note, do you ever plan on breaking down the defenses from Wilt's era? During, or a little after he played? Not only would like to hear what you think about their offensive/defensive strategies...But how you think MJ would do back then with rule diffences in mind. Its been awhile since I've seen it so I could be totally off, but I think Handchecking in that era was a bit more "rough", with a rule change regarding it between 76 and 82.
Though that's definitely not saying he wouldn't be the best Guard or wouldn't dominate
