The official NBA MVP award, voted by the media, will come down to Warriors point guard Stephen Curry or Rockets swingman James Harden. But who do NBA players think that deserves to win the Maurice Podoloff trophy?

We asked that question to 29 NBAers in the last few days. It was a close contest, but Harden was the one that ended up prevailing.

All the players polled picked Harden and Stephen Curry in their Top 3, but only the Rockets guard was among the first two choices every time. That's why he comes out on top.

Russell Westbrook, who has carried the injury-plagued Thunder all season long, finished at No. 3 ahead of LeBron James. Anthony Davis, who leads the league in PER and is likely playoff bound, was No. 5.

Chris Paul, Pau Gasol and Dwyane Wade were the only others getting votes

Can't give the MVP to Harden when Curry has rekt'd him head to head.

Curry has the better stats, win record, defense and head to head edge.

Do you really think a close contest in which 29 people voted is significant to say make a statement?

I would probably vote for Harden had he finished second in the standings. But we shall see.

What's different about a player that wins 57 or 56 games? That's not a valid reason to change your vote on a MVP, especially playing in the toughest division in the league the past decade.

I doubt these players have seen Harden or Curry play more than a handful of times this season.

I don't care if Curry wins MVP, Harden will still be the most valuable player in 14-15 in my eyes.

Warriors won 10+ more games than Houston.

The 2nd seed means that you beat out evryone except the Warriors.

The 6th seed means you did alright. Sometimes one game is all that matters.

The also have two players that were All-Stars, two other players who are DPOY candidates, a potential 6th Man of the Year, and the COTY.

I'm sure Curry isn't as responsible for his team's success than Harden has for Houston.

So by your thinking, a 3rd or 4th seed will always be better than a 5th or 6th seed.

Team success is part of the award, and the Warriors just had a much more successful season. I was actually in favor of Harden winning MVP if the Rockets could at least hold on to HCA. I wouldn't be upset if he still won it... but I just don't see it happening.

Semantics. You knew what I meant, and if you didnt just replace record with seeding and get there yourself. James Harden needed to show that he was at the top of the Western mountain outside of the distant warriors.

Davis is the most valuable player. Not Harden. and Curry will win MVP.
Harden will be in strip club.

David Aldridge has James Harden as the MVP as well.

Again, if he doesn't get it, it will be a travesty.
