Do you live in an MLS city? If so, bite the bullet and go to a game. So much of the strategy of soccer doesn't show up on TV, because the camera always follows the ball. That means you don't see all of the movements/adjustments that are going all over the field in order to open the defense up. It really is a chess match and is very fun to watch once you understand the strategy.

It can also be very nerve-wracking if you are truly rooting for a team. Because goals don't happen often, every time your team loses the ball, you are nervous until they get it back. It is also quite entertaining to see how, frequently, the entire game changes once one team scores.

All that said, it's not for everyone.

I would say most sports seem boring to those who havnt grown up on it. For example no one in the world bar Americans like American Football. The only part people understand are.

1. White Slave owner (Quarter Back) bosses around bunch of black steroid dudes and shouts orders at them.

2. Black dudes do all the work, but slave owner gets all the credit.

3. Commercials.

4. Half Time show.

Not even joking but most people outside of the US that attempt to watch a regular season NFL game are usually only watching because theyre under the assumption theres gonna be a good half time show.

I'd watch a good soccer game over a good basketball game any day.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATnsnN717kQ

A great highlight mix of what makes soccer so great. Just the way they are able to move that ball, and with their feet none the less. I love creative midfielders and tricky wingers; they make the game so much fun to watch.

Outside of that, you have to be on your game every night. Even if you are the better team on a night, you can lose if you don't capitalize on your chances. That brings another facet of excitement, especially for smaller clubs since they have a much better chance than in something like basketball. Fans of smaller clubs enjoy being able to hold billion dollar clubs scoreless on some nights.

The the huge talent pool, the overall quality, the rivalries, the passion and the intricacy of the game itself make it the best sport for me.

With most people. If you aren't introduced to a sport and you don't understand it you won't like it. I used to think american football sucked until a friend at uni converted me.

Technically speaking, a 0-0 scoreline = close game throughout. That it only compares to a blowout in basketball say a lot about its entertainment value.

2014 World Cup Final vs Game 7 2013 Finals

Anyone who argues the soccer match was more exiting is lying to themselves.

Soccer is the most simple of all sports. Does the coach even carry a playbook? NFL coaches do--they look like this:

NFL is a game of plays, after every play there is a stoppage and time for the coach to call a new play. In soccer, it is in real time. There are no stoppages and the game just keeps on going. Big difference.

Do you think baseball has a playbook like that?

No, but baseball managers scout the hell out of opposing players. They know Mike Trout's favorite and least favorite pitches, where he likes them, how he hits with men on base, whether he's going to swing on the second pitch of a 3-2 count, etc.

Soccer coaches obviously scout opposing teams as well, but not to such extremes. The ability to improvise is a positive quality soccer has, the problem is it doesn't lead to a lot of action on the pitch IMO.

And that is fine since it is your opinion, that is why there are plenty of other sports for you to choose from. IMO, soccer is entertaining af and really gets my blood flowing (ESPECIALLY if one of my teams is playing). If it is a really good game, the 45 minute halves feel a lot more like 20 minutes, even if there was no goal.

Soccer is really boring honestly. I'm the type to give all sports a chance too. I've even grown to like hockey and I can even enjoy golf.

Soccer just doesn't do anything for me. In my eyes, nothing ever happens. its Boring AF. The players are divas and flop more than the NBA, the fans are low class, and the offside rule is stupid. Unless USA is playing there is just no reason to waste my time watching that mediocre sport geared for 3rd world countries.

They make a cool video game though

Simple is good. Like Go is simple. Like Chess is simple. Rules are restrictive.

Soccer requires an amount of creativity and understanding of the game to be able to beat the opponent, from the manager but even more so the players.

American football? It's just a bunch of rehearsed instances. No creativity. No real individual intelligence. The smarts don't even come from the athletes themselves, they just rehearsed movements over and over. It's not creative, not intelligent and not entertaining. American Football is Rock-Paper-Scissors to Soccer's Go.

Stuff like that basically happens for the entire duration of a soccer game. In American Football it's a highlight for the ages.

If soccer consisted of teams taking turns taking corners over and over, then it would actually be somewhat similar to American Football. Man. That would be terrible. They would probably play that shit only in the country that came up with it and ignore it everywhere else.

I cringe at my fellow countrymen for dissing soccer. If you don't like then it is ok. It is not for everyone.

It is a beautiful game. A beautiful goal is a beautiful goal. The build-up is the best part. The point of the game for a fan is to suffer and wait for that one goal. When that goal arrives, it is the single most gratifying feeling in all of sports.

There are no commercials. You know when the game starts and you know when you are done with the game. No sitting around during commercials. If you watch soccer and go back to watching an American sport, you will know the frustration I am talking about here with commercials.

It also involves brains and brawn, throw in some foolish diving and flopping then you have great entertainment.

Its fine that other countries don't like or understand Football. But I'm sorry soccer is not more strategic. To call soccer a chess match is laughable.

A tie in sports? unfathomable .... I know it happens in football too but that's once every 5 years. not 10 times a world cup lol

There are really no ties in the long run. Teams can tie certain games, but at the end of the season there will only be one winner in each competition. Every draw means something and it is just another piece of the story that ultimately culminates at the end of each year.

As much as I love the NFL, this guy is correct. Commercials seem to be a lot longer than when I was a kid watching.

My buddies and I wait till 15 minutes after kickoff so we can DVR it and fast forward through commercial.
