Old man Bird ...

http://www.perfectshotsshooting.com/basketball-shooting/larry-bird-the-legend-continues/

[QUOTE]There is a reason they call him Larry Legend. In a story reported by SLAM, one of the greatest basketball shooters of all time, Larry Bird, recently put his skill on display for members of the Indiana Pacers during an impromptu shoot around. Paul George told the story to SLAM Magazine in a recent interview, and it certainly is one of legends: SLAM: I believe you had talked about seeing Larry shoot in the gym. PG: He picked a ball up that had rolled over. He rolled up his sleeves and made about 15 in a row and just walked out like nothing just happened. It was the craziest thing I

Well, how about this then...

As well as his shooting. While most players waltzed into the locker room the required 90 minutes before game time, Bird has been on the floor by at least 6:00, more than two hours before tip-off. In the loneliness of Boston Garden, with only attendants and a few Celtics season ticket holders present, Bird shot more than 300 practice shots. He’d start with 6 to 10 free throws, move out on the court a bit, and then start firing away at a comfortable pace as comrade Joe Qatato hit him with perfect passes. Then the “Parquet Picasso,” as he was dubbed, would speed up the routine and by the end of the workout throw up rapid-fire shots, many featuring the Bird “drop back a step” maneuver that guaranteed him an opening from every angle. “I really don’t count my shots,” Bird said. “I just shoot until I feel good.”

ESPN producer Bill Fairweather recalled Bird amazing even the great Micky Mantle. “We had Mantle in the studio when I worked at WBZ in Boston, and the in-house camera feed showed Bird practicing at the Garden. It was like 4:00 and nobody was there but the maintenance people and a few ushers. Here’s Bird out there shooting jumpers, one after another. Mantle watched for a while, and then said, ‘This guy hasn’t missed a shot since I got here.’ I could tell the Mick was in awe of Bird.

Granted that doesn't say 3pt shots, either, but after 6-10 FTAs, he moved out and started firing away...

And again...a 50 year old Mullin...

If it's true, that is insane. With the distance of NBA 3s, all it takes is a slight loss in focus and/or form to miss. I might hit 10 straight from college 3s but 77 from NBA distance? Unreal. NBA 3s are very deep. I have played this game my whole life and the one thing I have yet to master is to be able to hit 3s consistently, even from college 3s. I think my small hands make it harder for me to generate enough power to get my shots off from beyond about 21 feet. NBA do players do have advantages in shooting with their large hands, taller height, etc. But still, unreal.

The thing that interests me with a streak like Curry's is the mental aspect. At some point I wonder if he thought to himself "Man, I've probably hit about 50 in a row by now." Sometimes, it seems consciousness of something like that is enough to skew one's concentration just enough to create a miss (almost like the yipps). Incredible shooting one way or another.

Pretty much sums it up that its a rhythm thing. This guy took more than 7 hours of free throws without missing and 30 feet out is a totally different muscle set. But proves that it is about muscle memory and sticking to your fundamentals.

But unless a defender is making you alter your muscle set, it isn't that big of deal for game play.

Klay said his high 36 in a row. And to all you on ISH who think its easy. Just cause these college and professional players ( NBA and top overseas pro) make it look easy....doesn't mean its easy to do. They are all in their own way anomalies to the game in their own right comparison with general population of people who play the game of basketball.

You could barely go into your local gym and see any of the guys have the ability to hit 20 free throws in a row being all net , let alone 20 3 pointers let alone 20+ 3 pointers in a row......especially from NBA range

like some of these college and professional players are capable of . There is a reason why people are played millions to play the game of basketball. If it was easy, everyone would do it

Yeah it's crazy. Both of these feats are incredible.

I could see as somebody who dedicate them to hitting threes could actually hit a really high percentage, but Curry is a basketball player - he has to develop other facets and shit. Not to mention that a planted shot is potentially more accurate than a jumper.

It's amazing. Hearing about other players hitting 60 3's in a row is also very inspiring.
