Exactly. According to Durant's list the NBA basically didn't exist before 1980.

Exactly. According to Durant's list the NBA basically didn't exist before 1980.

Magic/Bird rivalry and later MJ, made the NBA a globally recognizable brand. These guys ARE basketball. Ask fans around the world (of a certain age ofcourse) and you'll see those names on most top 5 lists. Kobe must have been his idol growing up and thus he maybe subjective about him, although a click lower than the others imo.

Why would old era guys care? Most people his age don't know the history of the game, can't hold it against him. He's going to like the people he had a chance to see plain and simple.

Dr J is on a lot of peoples top all-time teams.

He did do a lot. The ABA isn't just a footnote. He has an ABA+NBA career, and the combination is top tier all-time along with his influence on fans with his acrobatic play.

It depends what your criteria is. My Mount Rushmore isn't about who was greater as an individual or who had the most productive career. Mine is more about who impacted the game the most on and off the court and who reinvented/changed the game with their style of play. So basically, the most influential...worldwide.

I have the obvious MJ and a hybrid Magic/Bird. Still stuck between Wilt, Bill, Kareem, Shaq, AI, Dr. J, Kobe, and Lebron. I'm leaning towards Dr. J and Wilt though.

I'll vouch for Russell anytime though, he's got just as strong of a GOAT case as Wilt, if your priorities shift from individual abilities/accolades to winning/team success.

Durant is 27. Mentioning Magic and Bird was probably his attempt to give a nod to history. People should realize that he grew up watching the tail end of Jordan's career and then the Shaq/Duncan/Kobe era. He's seen Dr. J highlights and maybe some grainy Russell and Wilt footage. You can't help but to be more impressed by guys you really saw than guys you've only heard about. That's why some teens on this forum have no respect whatsoever for anything that happened pre-2000. Durant has more knowledge of history than to have that kind of attitude but even older fans haven't seen much of Oscar Robertson beyond

http://www.sportswriters.net/USBWA/awards/oscar/action_oscar_ncaa.jpg

So the product of a minute's thought shouldn't be such a big deal and doesn't prove anything. It's another opinion.

Why would it be retarded?

Criteria is entirely opinion based. I know people (Dr. J actually is one of them) who have people like Elgin Baylor on on their top all-time list. I think Chris Paul has AI on his. Shaq has Doctor J on his.

A lot of people feel strongly about players whom they watched growing up, and when pressed or scoffed or laughed at, like Doctor J when he went to talk with Stephen A. Smith who argued with him about his Jordanless top-5, Doctor J said those are the guys he grew up watching and are his hero's for life. As he said to Stephen A. Smith "You like oranges? Have an orange." It doesn't always boil down to who's got this or that.

Why would he say LeBron? Because LeBron accomplishments came at Durants expense. LeBrons legacy depended on him beating Durant in the finals. Durant had to fail for LeBrons legacy to increase.

So if Durant praises LeBron he's basically saying "This dude got the better of me that's why he's great and I'm not"

I'm sorry but the "Mt. Rushmore" is supposed to be your personal 4 greatest players of all time, that's the standard interpretation.

"Mt. Rushmore of influential players"
"Mt. Rushmore of most aesthetic games"

Those are Mt. Rushmores that Dr. J and AI have a case to be on.

But an unqualified "Who is on your Mt. Rushmore"? No, no chance in hell. And for the record KD is a ****ing imbecilic retard to have Kobe on his. I love Kobe but if you are placing him above RUSSELL, Kareem, and several more who have a case (Shaq, Duncan) you're a nutcase. KD is a ****ing nutcase.

My mt. Rushmore:

Reggie Miller
Drazen Petrovic
Larry Bird
Pete Maravic

But i dont think those are the 4 best careers of all time...

Get my point? There is a difference between 4 players that swayed you the most and 4 players who you think had the best careers evaluating achievements etc.

Just realized he left Duncan off. Also Shaq and Hakeem. That's three bigs who have a case for being on the mountain post 1979. And Kareem was still around for a good part of the 80s.

He can have his opinion, but if it's fantasy draft post 79, Jordan is the only one I consider taking over Hakeem, Shaq and Duncan.
