Point differential is also a good indicator of how good a team is. Clips had 2nd best at +6.6 and SAS was 3rd at +6.2. I always say you are what your record saids you are. And the fact is, SAS is the 6th seed, not the 1 seed like last year.

Last year, SAS had an amazing 30-11 road record. On the flip side, Miami had a 22-19 road record. Teams with road records just 3 games above .500 don't win rings and it's not surprising SAS beat Miami.

And even more telling. In 2013, when Miami beat SAS, Miami had a whooping 29-12 road record while SAS had a 23-18 road record.

Road record is a great indicator of how good a team really is because you take any road win you can get. But to be dominant on the road is a great indcator of how good you really are as a team.

"Curse" aside, I feel like the Clips are better and they are playing great, but the Spurs... I dunno. I mean they fluctuate. It does seem like they go from contender to first round exit often... and they fell to 6, but I kind of feel the NBA is about storylines, so I feel that the Spurs fall to 6 was their adversity and actually improves their chances, at least in the first round.

When you have teams that have almost identical records, I like to look at certain things to see if I can dig a little deeper.

1) Road record. This is the mark of a very good team. Clips were 26-15. Spurs 22-19. Clips +11. Spurs +3.

2) Point diff. Clips 2nd in league with 6.6. Spurs 6.2.

3) Conference record. Clips 37-15. Spurs 32-20. Clips +22. Spurs +12.

4) How did the team finish the season. Clips 13 of 14. Spurs finished real hot too. Don't know the exact numbers.

5) Motivation. Spurs won last year. We got jobbed by the refs in OKC. The Clips want it more.

6 ) Home court advantage. Clips.

I am not saying what I said above is the be all, end all. That would be ridiculous as there is no perfect formula. If there was, I would be rich. But like I said, when two teams have nearly identical records, these are some factors I look at.

And finally, I think the Clips are just the better team.

spurs scored 0 points in game 2 after dj free throws (that allowed clips to get back in the game when down 8)

and then in this game clippers got in the bonus because pop was fouling dj and it gave chris paul a bunch of free points he wouldn't have gotten otherwise

it worked out benching dj in this game because big baby was playing really well but it makes more sense to just let him shoot 50 times and have all the spurs foul out. it ruins the spurs offense. and the clippers get the offensive rebound on 20% of those deandre misses.
