Change the rules so that when a player fouls another player in any situation the team has the option of shooting freethrows or taking the ball out of the sideline.

This would stop all the hack-a-shaq shit and would also stop teams from fouling to prevent game tying threes.

No. Im talking watch-ability here. Not advantages/disadvantages of particular teams or matchups.

Actually, that's not a bad idea at all. The point of the "bonus" is that it punishes the team that has 6 team fouls. This rule would be in the spirit of the original 'bonus' rule and would be a very good rule change no one likes watching that bullshit at the end of games :applause:

He is a Hawks fan.

I've heard this proposal before, and I think it is a good idea as well.

If this were to happen, you know eventually a coach would lose due to opting for an in bounds at the end of the game and getting a turnover.

why? they are pro players getting paid millions a year, practice your freethrows
edit: and its rediculous how some players shoot less then 60% when i can reach that mark using the granny freethorw method

Terrible Idea. For ex Spurs up 3 with 21 to go. Whats stopping Pop from taking the ball out of bounds every time so he can foul out the opposing teams best players from trying to make a comeback

He runs the risk of getting the ball stolen on the constant inbounds.

Learn to shoot FTs or get out of the game.

Cool idea. However I would add that free throws are required under the 2:00 mark before the end of each half.

Freethrow shooting has a strong mental component. they do practice and in practice hit insane percentages.

In game? Garbage.

:wtf: in that case the opponent would just inbound it to a shooter and take the free throws... what are you not understanding here

Then they are down 1 again.

Spurs inbound and get 2 FTs (up 3 again)

Time is wasted and the opposing team can't run the designed play.

He said it like the Spurs' opponent is in the bonus, not the Spurs.

And regardless what you are describing is exactly what would happen with both teams in the bonus today.

OPs rule change simply gives teams the option to inbound they are not forced to. There are no fundamental issues with it.

Shooting FTs during practices and in games are two totally different things. A lot of big men should FTs about 90-95% in practice, but hit only 40-60% in game. Its very common.

Some players can't handle the pressure of a FT. Dwight Howard made over 80% of his FTs in practice for the Lakers but shot less than 50% in game.

Well, up any amount of points with the shot clock turned off means you need to foul.

Spurs could get fouled (-2 seconds), take the ball out.
Fouled, take the ball out.
Fouled, take the ball out.
Fouled, take the ball out.

That's fine. But like I said they run the risk of the inbound getting stolen.
