Make free throws.
Unfortunately, your solution doesn't fix the fact that it's boring as shit for the spectator to watch that garbage over and over.

Or intentional fouls made any other time than 2 minutes left in the game result in
2 Free Throws and the ball.

Pop absolutely killed the enjoyment of the last Rockets/Spurs game sending Josh to the line 20+ times

Agree with OP. Yes, it's pretty fckn boring to watch but I don't think the solution is create a rule to gift those ones who can't make FTs.
Just practice hard and make your FTs.

By the way, DeAndre will attempt at least 10 FT per game against the Spurs.

I thought it was Smith going 12-26 from the FT line that did that. :facepalm

Free throws are a part of the game every player should master. Watching hacka whoever is mainly to blame on the shooting coach since its mostly due to bad form.

Confidence plays a big part in it also...They could probably knock down free throws all day in practice...But once they get in front of thousands of people...They start thinking about it too much and dont shoot the ball with confidence

Simple solution..

in the first 46 minutes of the game a foul can be declined, the offensive team can either shoot the free throws or get a reset on the clock to 14 seconds (unless the shot clock has more time on it than when the foul was called) and take the ball out of bounds

except in And1 situations where the current rules would apply

in the last 2 minutes the same rules as above except the offensive team should they elect to take the free throws can send any player to shoot the free throws

once again except in the case of of a And1 situation

Sure confidence is important. But thats not the difference between Jamal Crawford and DeAndre Jordan at the line.

I don't care.

Smith was 12-26.

Rockets average around 1 PPP, so hitting 1 of 2 is right on pace with the rockets scoring.

Only way it helps you is if the rockets shoot well below 50%.

Feel free to continue it.

It's a situational strategy to KEEP them at 1PPP and not higher for that small stretch of the game. You had a good thought, you just needed to think it through a little further.

OP nailed it, you make millions of dollars to play basketball... hit your free throws and this type of strategy doesn't even get considered. It's no coincidence they are call "free" throws... uncontested, 1pt shot from straight out... PROFESSIONAL basketball player, sent to line on purpose because he can't hit his "free" throws, pitiful.

It's very sad when you make millions of dollars, have 4 months off a year and you can't develop a basic skill required for your profession. These guys obviously don't care about getting any better at it despite any stories of them "working with" so and so to figure it out.

This would certainly eliminate it.

Purists may not like it, but this is the answer.

You know, I like this actually, but it doesn't change the fact that it's sad their is lots of players making millions to be pros who don't have an excuse for their pitiful free throw shooting.

Make your free throws.

If you can't make your free throws, get out of the game in the last two minutes and learn to make them in the back.
