View Full Version : Players whom made terrible FA decisions.

We all know about teams being reckless with cash, but there is another side of the coin with players whom signed with a team that were obvious terrible fits for them at the time.

The first two players I can think of are Baron Davis and Elton Brand in 2008. Baron was never going to be a good fit for a Mike Dunleavy offense and the Sixers were a run and gun team that didn't fit Brand's strengths as a player.

Whom are some other notable examples?

Sprewell may have made the worst all time. Offered a decent contract, turns it down to "feed his kids", then never gets a contract ever again.

Shit, if he was frustrated with Mitch taking so long to build a contender around him...

Obviously money and a potential winner is the reason players leave but these players had huge dropoffs after leaving

Lance Stephenson
Chris Bosh
Channing Frye
Hedo Turkoglu
Rashard Lewis
Spencer Hawes
Tyson Chandler
Arron Afflalo

Can't agree with these three, Bosh left and won 2 nba championships. He went from being a 1st option to 3rd option, so of course his stats were going to suffer some, but so did Wade's. This season he was playing great early in the season, looked really good.

Rashard Lewis was an integral piece to the Orlando Magic team that defeated Lebron and the Celtics, and made it to the finals. They had the misfortune of playing against a fantastic Lakers team in the finals.

Chandler was always a beast on D, not his fault the Knicks are a shitty franchise.

players like bosh should always go to the place that is paying them the most or has a very very good chance at a championship. and even then he would only take a little pay cut on a championship team because he knows that he can't be the best player on a championship team.
people forget that bosh didn't do much in Toronto. he just got good stats. he is in miami because they offered him the most money. he likes miami but he would have gone to houston if they could pay him 10-20 mil(total) more than the heat .
Tyson chandler got paid. why wouldn't he leave?

anyone who went to a school even only till 5th grade shouldn't make this mistake. this is worse than using "should of" instead of "should have"

Not sure I agree, he and Yao were robbed of the success they deserved by injuries. That was a hell of a squad they were leading

I legit cringed every time OP used "whom."

But i still think "should of" instead of "should have" is even more cringe-worthy. I mean, these are even simpler words that no one should be confused about.

In retrospect, Jeremy Lin had a disastrous FA. Of course this was before Harden was traded.

Bonzi Well really screwed up. Turned down a $35m contract, went for a 1 year deal with Houston for like $2m, got injured and never even got close to his playoff level of play.

The title should be team who made terrible decisions in pursuing free agents.

The players are going to go where the money is, so its up to the team to do their homework and decide which player fits their system.

I'm a Pistons fan, so you already know the player(S) I'm referring to :banghead:

Dwyane Wade, opting out of his max deal to sign for a less. Lebron really screwed Dwyane over.
