Marvel has the movie universe in their favor, although slightly, but with watchmen, dark knight trilogy, man of steel and the upcoming batman vs. superman, DC is slowly bringing the big guns to this fight too.
DC easily has better heroes, batman, superman, flash are more popular than anything that marvel has to offer. Hulk, Wolverine, Iron man are somewhere in the flash range maybe, but quite far away from the top 2 of DC.
DC easily has better villains. Joker > anything marvel has to offer. I remember Loki and then... malakesh? malaketh? What was his name?
DC have MUCH better animated movies. I mean, the dark knight returns, flashpoint paradox, justice league: war, mask of the phantasm? C'mon now, not even a contest.
I don't know much about comics, so I won't discuss that, but I'd imagine that having much more popular superheroes, DC are probably more famous in that department too.

DC > Marvel, easy win.

Yeah, my bad, he's on the same level as batman/superman.
Still, DC has two giants vs. one.

We can compare the popularities of all of them:
Batman > Spiderman
Superman > Hulk
Flash = Iron man
Wonder Woman < Wolverine
Green Lantern = Daredevil
And after that, DC just dominates the competition with Aquaman, Nightwing, Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Catwoman, Shazam, Cyborg.

There's legitimate argument to be made about DC movies being better so far than Marvel's. If we take into account all movies based on DC comics, not just the new DCCU.
I don't think there's a better movie in MCU than any of the Nolan's films.
Not to mention batman of 1989 and the one after that. Superman 1,2 were great for it's time too.
Man of Steel was a good superman movie and Watchmen is probably the best adaptation with amazing visuals and masterful acting.

So you rank them best to best and see what you get:
The Dark Knight > Avengers
The Dark Knight Rises > Winter Soldier or at least equal, but rises had much more depth and layers to it
Batman Begins = Iron Man
Watchmen > Guardians of the Galaxy
Superman 1/2 > Thor 1/2
Man of Steel > Captain America : The First Avenger
Batman 1989 > The Incredible Hulk.
I'm not even gonna mention the pieces of shit that iron man 2 and 3 were

Guardians of the galaxy is just an action comedy with a few lovable characters, it became overrated because people didn't expect anything from it and they got a good sci fi flick with some cheesy, yet still hilarious comedy. It's a good movie, but Watchmen has many layers to it with way superior acting and directing. And in terms of the story, it's dozens of times better. I really don't get why Watchmen aren't regarded higher, it's probably too deep for a comic book movie as popcorn chewing audiences can't really understand it, but in terms of a cinematic achievement, acting, story it's way beyond guardians.
Yeah, Guardians are probably more enjoyable and way more fun, but Watchmen are a better movie.

And Captain America 1 isn't that good of a movie. Similarly to man of steel, it's just average

It will be the Rated-R flick they need to get out of that brightly colored kid friendly vibe they give off.

Movie wise it's clearly Marvel. Both by box office and Rottentomatoes.

TV show wise it's a tie after the new Daredevil, they both have corny cheese in Agents of Shield/Agent Carter and Arrow/Flash. Out of those Flash has been the best this year, Arrow is going downhill and has been cringe garbage this season.

Animated movie wise it's all DC, Marvel hasn't done a quality release since Hulk Vs.

EnoughSaid
04-19-2015, 10:37 PM
It's funny I think the opposite this season. Arrow has been a let down after it's first two seasons.

Agree completely. Arrow has regressed and this season of Flash is more entertaining. Gotham is wack.

Just finished Daredevil and that alone is easily the best comic book show to date.

So for me the TV shows aren't there yet.

Let's look at the movies.

DC:
Batman Begins
The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight Rises
Green Lantern
Man of Steel

Marvel:
Iron Man
Iron Man 2
Iron Man 3
Captain America: The First Avenger
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Thor
Thor: The Dark World
Avengers
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers 2
Ant Man

I will admit that the Nolan trilogy was a masterpiece. However, other than that, DC hasn't done shit. Man of Steel was poorly done and way too dark for a Superman movie. He's supposed to be the shining beacon of hope. That's why I don't like how dark Dawn of Justice looks. I'm not even mentioning Spidey movies or X-men films.

In regards to superheroes, only Batman stands out. Superman is not even talked about in between younger kids and those who aren't 30.

DC has: Batman, Superman, Flash, Wonderwoman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow

Marvel: Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Daredevil, Deadpool, X-Men, etc.

Marvel is superior right now. Their casting has been superb.

I'd bet money that comment came from some reddit snob. Dude probably has an essay written about why Marvel fans are dumb and just copy+pastes snippets from time to time. Kinda like 3ball but with comics.

I've read both, watched both, played both, and done a ton of "research" (:oldlol:) into each universe and I don't buy that intelligence argument. For me it seemed that Marvel was flashier and DC was generally more grim, I liked both in their own way but Marvel had a fun factor I just didn't get out of DC as frequently.

Again, debatable.

This isn't a debate. He is the goddamn Batman.

But all seriousness, Batman probably have the most success and critically acclaim superhero out both DC/Marvel through video games, comic books, cartoons and movies.

For real man. Batman has it all.

Comic Books: The Dark Knight Returns, The Killing Joke, Year One, Long Halloween
Video Games: Arkham series
Movies: Nolan trilogy, 1989 Batman
Cartoons: Batman TAS and Batman Beyond
Cartoon Movies: Batman Mask of the Phantasm, Under the Red Hood, and etc

Batman consistently gets voted on having the best villains with The Joker being on top. His comic books are always selling in the top 10. Usually breaking to the one or whatever. Hell, I wouldn't be surprise if he hold the number 1 spot more than any other superhero. Last year, his comic was number 1 seller for six months collectively. 3 months straight. Always in the top ten and even his spinoff titles.

What other superhero has this amount of exposure across media and critically acclaim status? No one I think. The closest might be X-Men in terms of a nice balance. In terms of popularity then Spidy and Superman are up there with him, but I think Spidy is more popular than Batman.

Every superhero have its ups and downs tho. You can say that one superhero isn't your cup of tea, but you can't deny the success rate the Bats.

Watch Daredevil the TV show. It has a different tone from the rest of the Marvel TV shows/movies. It's dark and gritty. It kicks ass. It's like a crime drama with Daredevil in it. It's probably one of the best shows to watch out there period, let alone the best superhero TV show.

But you didn't like the Red Skull or the Winter Soldier in the Cap movies? I thought those villains were pretty cool. Anyway, Marvel dropped the ball with the villains a lot. They killed the Mandarin...(wow). But good thing is that they might retry it and do it right. It's kind'a hard to mess up Thanos and Ultron tho, so Marvel should start getting better villains soon.

They still have some other villains that they could do. They could still do Kang, Norman Osborn since Spidy is in the Marvel universe, and Korvac maybe? I just hope they could do World War Hulk. That was a badass arc.
