Manu and Tony are just getting old and not effective anymore.

Kawhi Leonard still a role player. LMAO asking for max money when you can't even take over a game

Leonard has proven IN THE FINALS that he can take over.

I guess the personalities and system around him doesn't allow for him to do so on a regular basis.

He's a vital part to a successful team and impacts the game in many ways. I'd give him max.

At least wait till the clippers have won their 2nd home game to make this thread.

For the record Leonard probably deserves the max for his defense alone, he may not be a superstar on the other end but he is very solid and efficient. Plus he could become a bargain by the time the new cap comes in.

In a league that has become increasingly driven by perimeter scoring, Leonard's defense may be more valuable than ever. I'm actually hopeful the Celtics offer him the max. I'd hope the Spurs would get a little too cute and not resign him. Him a Jimmy Butler would be the restricted guys I'd consider "overpaying" to try and chase their matching teams away.

Leonard's defense alone could get him a max deal alone, he is that good on that end.

they rotate too much....teams are starting to figure them out.

they should go all-out for Marc Gasol/Aldridge in the offseason...more starpower

They play zone all damn day long.

Get someone at foul line extended and get others cutting baseline and you'll do fine. That and hit your outside shots.

They play the laziest defense ever. One where they can hide Diaw and Parker. People actually thought Diaw was stopping Bron is how well they can hide defensive deficiencies on that team.
They all guard areas on the floor, and collapse high on any drive from outside the key. Forcing the penetrator to kick back out most of the time.
If you get someone at the foul line, you can drop the ball into them, they can face up, pass, penetrate even further or pull up for a easy 15 footer.
Blake Griffin is one of the best in the league at it. Probably why the Spurs are struggling.

I picked the Clips, but I aint buying it yet, the Spurs have been down and out more times than a two bit who-er.

If their system is failing them though they are in trouble because they play a lot of high IQ, lesser on the talent types and if the IQ isn't giving maximum output they will sputter.

Pop will adjust. That's what good coaches do.

in these kind of series, the home team OFTEN wins game 1. no biggie. whenever a team wins a series on the road, its often because they win game 2.

premature and ultimately pointless thread.

Spurs were playing one of their worst games of the entire year and were ONLY down 6 for a majority of the game.

Pop sat Duncan for way too long, benched Mills too early, and while Clippers played good defense they also gave up a TON of wide open shots that the Spurs bricked.

Spurs shoot even 44 or 45% and it's a completely different ballgame.

I wouldn't worry until the home team drops a game, which will happen.

Nah, they should still win this in 6, but I don't see them getting past the Warriors this year.

This. The Clippers played really really well, about as well as they can expect to play in any given game. The Spurs played about as poorly as they could - just horrible shooting all around.

If things even out a bit and Spurs steal game 2, then they have some momentum back and 2 games at home. If Spurs steal game 2, they might come back to LA up 3-1.

If the Clips keep balling and the Spurs don't get out of that shooting slump, I think Clips will steal one in SA and finish out in 5. Game 2 is huge.

Let's ignore the streak the Spurs were on prior to the playoffs due to 2 games. Spurs have an uphill battle ahead, but I put more faith in them than any other 6th seed.

Does Pop have the balls to bench Parker?

It's only one game, and it's the Spurs, but they looked really bad in Game 1. I trust Pop and Duncan and crew to figure it out. Plus, Doc will run the starters into the ground because their bench is so bad.

The key to this series is Blake. No one in the Spurs can cover him unless Pop will switch Duncan to him and risk foul trouble. And this version of Blake is not just a spin move and lobs, he can make plays and hit the midrange.
