Historically who guarded the three listed the best not only in the regular season but in the playoffs when it mattered.

I know Payton did well on Jordan and Kawhi on LeBron but what others players could hold down these legends when it mattered.

I got you and appreciate what you did there but who shut down Kobe regularly?

A few Raja Bell, Tony Allen, Shane Battier, Ron Artest all guarded Kobe well at times.

You're right on money here. I add Borias Diaw for Lebron.

I think Prince only really did well against him in that Finals series. I remember Kobe killing him in most matchups after that.

Nah man. That was just for a few stretches in the 2013 Finals. Anyone guarding LeBron at that time was just sagging way off, and LBJ was on a cold streak shooting from outside. Diaw can't guard that motherf*cker at all.

It wasn't just the Finals it happened in other matchups he didn't always lock up Lebron up but rather slowed him down.

Prince had amazing defense on Kobe in 2004 Finals he locked him down and played great against Kobe all series long.

So two teams make the Finals, and the outcome would have been different if the losing team stole one of the winning team's all-stars? No f*ckin way.

Yo no lie, I saw G0ATbe as the most recent poster ITT, and I literally knew EXACTLY what his post was going to be.

I knew he would say "no one" or "n/a" or something for Kobe.
Then I knew he would post gifs of Kobe blocking MJ and LBJ.

If you're that predictable, that means you f*cking suck as a troll.

Prince is on the list because he's been recognized as a great defender... Same as Rodman - MJ dominated Rodman the same way, but Rodman's still on the list because he was a great defender.

You're right about Kawhi, and I also missed Shawn Marion (added to both lists) - here's the revised list:

Lebron's Best Defenders

Shawn Marion
Kawhi Leonard
Andre Igoudala
Paul George
Gerald Wallace
Bruce Bowen
Tayshaun Prince
Andrei Kirelinko
Jimmy Butler
Luol Deng
Ron Artest

MJ's Best Defenders

Dennis Rodman (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=359858)
Gary Payton
Michael Cooper
Stacey Augmon
Derrick Mckey
Ronaldo Blackman
Alvin Robertson
Sidney Moncrief
Eddie Jones
Reggie Lewis
Shawn Marion
Doug Christie (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xca8mjSzjIo&t=0m28s)
Ron Harper
Gerald Wilkins
Jerome Kersey
Clifford Robinson
Anthony Mason

I also wanted to add prime Garnett to MJ's list, since he and MJ both played SF in 2002 - in their first meeting when MJ was a Wizard, they were matched up SF vs. SF for the entire game.. MJ scored 35 on Garnett in every way imaginable from the opening tip - at the 4:00 mark, Jordan scores on Garnett for 5 consecutive possessions, with the announcers getting more excited each time:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=embqhggoep4

Lebron never got to face a prime Garnett.. I doubt he would have the quickness to make it a huge mismatch like MJ did.. After all, guys like Boris Diaw, Gordon Hayward fare well against Lebron defensively.

blah blah blah

Just reread the OP - this is not about the great defenders that they had to face, but about who did the best job against them.

Of course your post was agenda-driven as always, to prop up the '80s/'90s and argue that MJ faced better competition. That just has nothing to do with this thread.

Here's prime Pippen getting roasted in his own game by the Birmingham Barons' outfielder:

And since no one else said it yet... Lebron- the 4th quarter.

You're slipping ISH.

Does the title of the thread say "who did the best" on MJ/Kobe/Lebron, or does it say "best defenders" on MJ/Kobe/Lebron".

It says "best defenders", so I listed the best defenders who guarded MJ and Lebron.. How's that not relevant?.. You're just salty because Lebron can't break off defenders like MJ can.

No, you have to read the OP, not just the title. Wake up.

Actually I'm not salty about that at all. In case you missed the other thousand times I've told you this, MJ is my favorite athlete of all time. I liked him way more than I like LeBron, and will gladly tell bran stans all day, every day, about how their idol is no where near the basketball player that Jordan was.

You know basketball very well, and what bugs me is that you stick to a one-dimensional agenda when you could be a good poster if you would broaden your range.

Sidney Moncrief is the only SG who can (arguably) claim he outplayed Jordan h2h in a Playoff series, despite all the "circumstances":

http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=312018

Played great defense on MJ and gave them hell on the other end.
