It's not like Cuban didnt informally offer dirk perpetual financial involvement with the team when he retires.
Dirk is set.

How did Dirk take less money to bring in Rondo when Dirk signed his contract in July and Rondo never became a Mav till late december?

It wasn't literal. He took less money to bring in help and this is what help his lesser money brought him.

Lol, alright. Didnt read the op, just the title.. my fault.
But still, if you told me last year that we would have Rondo and Parsons added on to a 49 win team, I'd take it 10/10. Shame that it didnt work out

This team had a chance...Dirk didn't know what was going to happen. And Dirk really likes Parsons.
They had a chance though because Dirk signed for cheap.
Could have had Ariza and IT and then made the Crowder, Wright, and first rounder trade for Mozgov and a piece.
It was all there...we just made a bad signing with Parsons and unfortunately walked into another Odom situation. As usual Cuban/Nellie Jr. back to putting bad teams together. Same story since 04.

At least Dirk is not whining or bitching at the organization. That is loyalty right there.

Dirk has been taken care of, there is no doubts that he has stability for life with the franchise if he wants it. While the team has fallen apart you could take the positive spin and say at least they tried to make a competitor rather than being a mid level team. I'd be more happy as a player to have had management try and fail then to have stayed put with a roster that was never going to win. That being said if they had not of blown it up trying to land Dwight/Deron in the first place they could have kept their championship roster for another year and then reloaded (due to age).

Cubans pride is too much.. unfortunately the mavs are like a toy to him.. and his power hungry Ness bit him in the ass.

Yea...if you really go through his moves with the team and Nellie Jr.'s moves from 04 to present it's pretty awful...same with draft picks.
Like...the only great signing was Tyson in 11 and they readily admit that they didn't even want him and just got lucky because it's all we really could do.
I love Cuban for at least trying to win, but he and Nellie Jr. have put out a lot of shit over the years from players to coaches...especially considering the stability an all time franchise guy like Dirk provided pretty much from the jump.

We'd have 0 chance to win the title though.
These moves weren't about just getting better it was about putting a team out there that if it played well...had legit chances to win the title.
Not win regular season games or 1 round.
Our biggest weakness was/is containing the ball for our guards. Giving us Jameer/Calderon would only make that problem worse.
Would our offense be much better? Absolutely, but no way in hell a team starting Nelson or Calderon in the West is winning the title.
This has been title or bust for years and it will continue to be that until Dirk is gone.
Just the way it is.
So while the Rondo trade didn't work, it's not like sitting still would have made sense. And the trade won't hurt us next year at all.
The real killer was the Parsons signing.

[I]On how much Dirk taking a less expensive contract made the Rondo trade possible:

Dirk tried to be honourable but got his head sliced in the end :( If you're gonna play the game of rings, you win or you die.
