Bran fan complaining about flopping in the NBA. The irony.

But I agree. This was rather shameless.

Rather it's the face of the league (Lebron) doing it, or the best team in the league doing it (Warriors), it should be formally and informally sanctioned.

Finally the stans like you are coming around to realize this.

Look at the replay before the ultra slomo which shows the full motion. Left elbow connects

seems like he caught him slightly, but someone needs to gif that after the elbow reaction face.

http://i.imgur.com/hk4hBJ5.gifLike chazzy said, that gif begins immediately after the contact. The creation of that gif is about as shameless as Green's supposed reaction. And surely, Green's reaction may have been embellished but 1) It doesn't take a full-fledged elbow to the face to induce a reaction and 2) At least there actually was contact. He certainly sold it, but the contact actually existed.

My question, is whether Anderson has the right to that pivot space. I know he swings through a bit, but to a degree he should be entitled to work within his personal space, no?

I have no idea what they rules say but my personal philosophy has always been that if you stick your face in there then you should be prepared to get hit. Anything less than a blatant elbow is fair game to me but I'm sure the rules aren't eye-for-an-eye as what I'd like. :lol

I was think back to the '01 Finals when I see foul calls like this. Shaq was savaging Mutombo like 4-5 times per game with elbows without a whistle.

I know you're a Pistons fan and probably liked Draymond since his Michigan State days (unless you're a Wolverines fan :oldlol: )... would you give him max to play for the Pistons? He's a helluva role player, like the opposite of Josh Smith...but he's no star.

He seemed a little heavy and not terribly athletic. Obviously, I've been proven wrong ever since (would have helped to account for his wingspan back then).

Still, the idea of paying him the max scares me a little bit. I know he's so much more than the numbers but... on a team like the Pistons right now, can they afford to pay max money to a guy who averaged 11 & 8 this past year? I just foresee him coming to Auburn Hills, playing his game (hitting trailing threes, playing great defense) but then the moment some losing hits, all we're going to say is, "Welp, you're paying a guy maximum contract money to average 13 points on 44% shooting so... what'd ya expect."

I agree, he is not a max guy but he is definitely a guy that would be a good 3rd-4th option. You can't justify maxing out a guy that's ceiling is a 15-9 guy. Max should only go to the potential stars. Draymond would get exposed as the #1 anywhere. He gets his great looks because Golden State has great ball movement and because teams would rather he be open than Curry and Thompson for 3s.

the DGreen one was an oversell since he did get the slightest amount of contact so you can consider it a flop, but there was contact. The bosh one was just hilarious.

The think I don't understand with flopping is does anyone actually fall like that in a pickup game when you actually get elbowed or run into?

Sure seems to convince the refs, though.

I actually don't get why that is an offensive foul (regardless of whether he hits him or not). I was always taught that elbows up as part of your pivot is legit. Is this just a NBA thing that the defense gets the benefit here? Clearly, Green is way too close and the elbow wasn't malicious or intentional. It seems to go against the principle that you need to give the offense space (e.g., when they shoot a place to land). What is the technical way to do that without getting an offensive foul?

Edit: Have any of you ever been lightly hit with an elbow to the nose? It hurts like a mofo...im glad people embellish it.

It's hard to find something specific in the rule book regarding pivoting with a defender in your space but I'd always heard similar to you. Some of the closest things I could find:

1. When a player attempts to execute a legitimate offensive or defensive move and an extended elbow makes more than marginal contact with a legally established opponent, a personal foul will be assessed.

2. When a player attempts a move where there is not ample room but despite the obvious risk continues, and makes significant but not excessive contact with an extended elbow, a Flagrant Foul 1 will be assessed. This is also the case if the elbow is swung, apart from a basketball move, and makes significant but not excessive contact.

3. A player shall not be allowed excessive and/or vigorous swinging of the elbows in a swinging motion (no contact) when a defensive player is nearby and the offensive player has the ball.

I guess it could be argued that Anderson didn't have space to complete that pivot, but I'd always kind of operated under the assumption that a player has a right to naturally pivot.

That was a hard pivot. He almost swung his elbows. He did go into his space, I think. Basically the whole 'you can pivot and elbow someone' shit is over now. I think it's been over for years.

I remember Shaq and other Cs used to get away with it, but now if you elbow someone it's pretty much a foul if not a tech.

At least, that's what I've seen.

If you look at the rhythm of his body, the 'pivot' was more with his upper body then he brought his lower body. That makes me feel like he was aiming to elbow him.

Yeah, it's an odd rule. I'm not a big fan of people sticking their faces in that close - it's not a natural basketball play.

Similarly, I hate that rip through nonsense of Harden. It is the offensive version of this defensive face flop.

I think that push off CP3 does with his off arm damn near every play is more of an offensive foul than what Ryan did here (and I'm a Dubs fan).

-SmakYeah, I may be with you on that one. Looking in super slow motion, I thought it looked a little disjointed too (as in, the elbow swing being separate from a natural pivot).
