View Full Version : So why exactly did Carmelo leave the Denver Nuggets??

because I think it's safe to say the Nuggets team he had was way better than any season of the knicks team since he went there.

Kenyon martin, JR smith, Nene, Birdman, Chancey Billups. He had a great supporting cast so why was he complaining? :confusedshrug:

Before the Dwightmare, there was the Melodrama. And one night after Dwight Howard made his return to Orlando, Carmelo Anthony will be making his first appearance in Denver since being dealt to the New York Knicks in 2011.

There were certainly plenty of similarities between the Howard and Anthony dramas, as both players essentially forced their way to a destination of their choice. Anthony was never as flip-floppy as Howard, but both situations featured daily rumors that were nothing but a distraction.

More on Melo's return to Denver: Denver Stiffs Posting and Toasting
One such rumor involving Anthony was that his wife LaLa was a big reason why he wanted to become a Knick so badly. Anthony denied that in an interview with Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, explaining that one of his biggest reasons for wanting out was the direction the Nuggets were headed in.

"People didn't really know the business side of the situation we were in," Anthony said. "Everybody's contract was up. They had plans of going younger. People from the outside looking in didn't really get it."

Following the 2010-11 season, Kenyon Martin, J.R. Smith, Marcus Camby and possibly Chauncey Billups were going to be free agents that were likely to go elsewhere. With Denver planning to go younger, Anthony decided that he did not want to be a part of a rebuilding process. So he pushed for a trade to New York to avoid a rebuild and to also take advantage of the major marketing opportunities in the city.

Nuggets first-year general manager Masai Ujiri also had the option of sending Anthony to the Nets, but he preferred the Knicks' offer of more proven players. In return for Anthony, the Nuggets received Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Kosta Koufos, Timofey Mozgov and Raymond Felton, who has since joined Anthony in New York.

The trade has worked out pretty well for both sides. While neither team has gotten out of the first round of the playoffs since the deal, the Knicks and Nuggets are both in excellent shape this year. New York is currently second in the Eastern Conference with a record of 38-23, while Denver is fifth in the Western Conference with a sterling mark of 43-22.

The Nuggets have won nine games in a row and are 28-3 at home on the season, and the Pepsi Center crowd is sure to give Anthony an earful. In addition to the hostile crowd, Anthony will also be dealing with a knee issue that has been bugging him. Anthony will try and block all that out and put forth a performance like Howard did in Orlando, where the big man scored 39 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.

Money and a fun city.

This.

To his credit, he never really tried to frame it as being about winning.

He wanted to be a star in the mecca of basketball, the home of hip hop, the city that never sleeps.

Cant blame him. Its really the knicks fault for not realizing how overrated he was.

We got insane value for a suoerstar, not only demanding a trade, but to only one team. And we still have another pick coming.

Everybody wants to play in NY.

Look at all the legends that have played in NY the last 15 years. Carmelo wants to live up to that.

He left because of Denver's ugly ass uniforms. He seriously looked like a beta wearing all that baby blue and yellow. I don't know how anyone could take Denver seriously.

Depending what the knicks can do this offseason that pick might not be that great..
Although it is the knicks so who knows:lol

At least denvers mess is a pile of talent that never meshed, not sure why they didn't trade more players at the deadline, maybe this offseason:confusedshrug:

The Nuggets did win that trade. Look at the final rosters that year for both teams, how many guys on the Knicks were out of the league the next year? Nuggets were stacked and had the fourth best overall record in the NBA the following year. Denver has had injury problems and it seemed like it all started when Gallinari went down. They have that Pistons like roster where there is no star but great quality starters everywhere.

lawson is probably traded on draft night. think Faried and maybe Chandler too are goners

but the nuggets at least had one season where they set a franchise record in wins, after the melo trade. tho they got knocked out by the Splash bro's in the 1st round

The Knicks are also a mess and they still have melo. If we had him we would be in a worse position than we already are (same win% but less future cap space)

But that has nothing to do with us winning the deal (which doesn't mean the Knicks won or loss their end). Injuries and the mole are why we have fallen in the last two years. But the melo deal was great. How many teams trade star players demanding to leave , and then improve.

The nugs forced him into wanting to leave when started giving away all their players and not signing anybody new

They gave away Camby, kleiza, najera, all without anything in return. The. They were getting ready to let kmart expirer without getting anything out of it and knowing they wouldn't have to ability to replace kmarts max slot

Kroenke promised to pay for a winner. Carmelo, powder blue and a high payroll "built a brand" in Denver and then slashed payroll

George Karl and kroenke made It all happen
