My father finally decides it's time. We have two vehicles. The work jeep is a Nissan Exterra. I don't know what year I believe 09. 80k miles. He told me it's mine from now on, if I want I can trade it in, add cash, get a car, etc.

It's a really nice vehicle. I love it personally. I find myself being a better driver in a jeep than in a car because it's higher up. I feel safer driving in a jeep. It's also all wheel drive for winter. Tinted back windows (for you know what)

The trade value is somewhere at $12k to 14k I doubt I'll get more. MPG sucks. If I do however jump to a car, what are your thoughts on a Scion FRS or Subaru BRZ? They both respectfully do 23-30MPG and from what I hear have great handling. 2 door sporty look for a young college student (about to be 23) their both selling for under $20K used. I can hook it up cosmetically.

The only other choice I see is a Nissan Maxima.

Something good on gas.

Yeah. I'm considering that. I'll post some pics of this kids FRS I knew since middle school. Probably the best one I've seen. Some research though and I've been attracted to this

The Josh in me says to see the Josh in you, and once Josh is consulted than Josh will show you the way to buy the vehicle to get to Josh.

Personally bought a 2007 Ford Fusion SE AWD in black. The 2007s and 2008s of the Fusion are the most dependable and and most affordable to repair out of any other years. The newer models past 2010 have much more engine issues. I love it so far, bought it about a month ago to replace my 1997 Audi A6 Quattro

I'm not saying go out and get this car, but if you are interested in a semi-newer dependable American-made car, sedan, close to a luxary-looking type, I would recommend this. I did my research and a few mechanics with 40+ years experience recommend this year span of this model if I wasn't going to buy a Honda or Toyota for cost/dependability.

Day I bought it:

JD Power ranks 2007 as the least reliable of all Fusion years.

2010 as the best and 2010 Hybrid won Motortrend car of the year.

J.D. Power rankings are pretty close to meaningless to me. The same goes for Consumer Reports. It's based upon sending out flyers to people and them choosing to mail a survey back. In any case more people pissed off about their car are going to send back negative reviews vs people totally fine with their cars. They report on the number of problems per 100 owners.

Personally, having done research and reading on the fordfusion.net forums, anything 2010 or later for Fusions have worse dependability and reliability due to engine issues. The throttle body being a big issue with the 2010s regular gasoline engines.

After talking to my father-in-law who was an equipment specialist in the army for 32 years and a mechanic for 40 years. And speaking with 2 other mechanics that both had 20+ years of experience, if you buy a Fusion, get a 2007, 08 or 09. Personally I bought the 3.0L V6 AWD and have been happy with it. I sent an oil report to Blackstone Labs and the report came back great and it has 131,000 miles on it. No contaminants, under average trace of metals in the oil, and almost no coolant in the oil at all in regards to parts per million.

In short. J.D. Power can go piss off, and always can with how they obtain and produce their information. It's not uniform in anyway.
