Will future generations making top 10 lists give Jordan the same treatment Russell and Wilt get by some now (weak era, therefore rings/stats mean little) and slight Jordan because of it?

I can easily see this happening, not that it's always justified. People want to believe the era of basketball they're watching is the best so therefore the players from said era are the best.

Thoughts?

No because the league is currently watered down and will stay that way for a while IMO.

Of course, that's how it works. People today already try to make cases that Kobe and Lebron are better than Jordan. 10-20 years from now it will even be worse.

Yeah, it's today's league that's a weak era. The talent at the top of the league is at an all-time low.

It's basically just LeBron and a bunch of injury prone, second rate stars.

Of course they will. They'll want to say they have seen the best. KAJ is more frequently mentioned as the GOAT in older crowds than younger crowds as well.

Depends on what the league looks like in 10 years. Currently, it's just as watered down at the 90's with a far, far....far inferior super star at the top. Lebron's only got a few years left in the league anyways. When that happens in 3 or 4 years, the league will be even more pathetic, ESPECIALLY the East. Curry and Anthony Davis don't have the impact of Shaq, Kobe, Jordan, and Duncans of the league. They may not even have the impact of the Lebrons, Pippens, Malones or Barkley's.

The league is going to be pretty weak for the foreseeable future, in other words.

It will take more than 10 years to get Jordan to the Bill Russell/Wilt feeling.

Don't see why not. It was weak.

Yes. No star's position is safe forever (baseball possibly being the exception, at least to a degree).

One would think, but you might be surprised. This forum is filled with some special younger people. Imagine those special peoples special children posting here in 10 years. Yikes.

In 100 years, Kobe will not be in the top 10. Then again, he never was.

The major difference is that there is hardly any footage of Russell and Wilt whatsoever. Anyone who wants to know what MJ brought to the court can just check the tape.

G.O.A.T. now and forever. Michael Jordan.

That's a solid point. We have all the games for Jordan for the young bucks to see. Not so much for Wilt, Russell, etc.

Absolutely not...

Modern era is the Modern era.... pool of talent, pace / poss. per game, evolution, has remained the same... it has reached its peak in the 80s and stood right up there ever since, some rule changes here and there... but yes... players, teams, skills, talent, wont get any better than that...

Nobody mentiones "weak era" with the 80s, 90s for example... those who do are only joking/trolling....

50s & 60s however.... whole other story....

When someone says something bad about Jordan, this is the face I imagine you make. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j67TAS2DcVw

Jordan has a lot of footage and people are still talking about him today, 12 years after he call it quits. Gatorade is even putting a classic Jordan commercial here in Brasil during the playoffs.

No because the 90s were factually NOT a weak era where as the 60s were.

The '90s? They didn't even have space elevators or AI back then, how am I supposed to take Jordan seriously? Dude wasn't even genetically engineered. Their best technology was 56k modems and something called pogs.

if many years from now you have to go through 8 rounds to win a championship then yes, if not then no

in Russell's day you literally had to win 2 series and you were champs.. those rings aren't on the same level of teams who had to play through 4 different rounds

but the rules and refs just want high scoring entertaining games, the sport is becoming less and less about competition and the natural story lines that generates and more about cashing in and creating artificial rivalries and stories.

To be fair, in 100 years probably everyone on the current list, save the top 3 or 4, will probably be off the list.

In 100 years the sport will probably be very different from what it is today.
