....
Do you agree? It should be happening as soon as this week.
Donavon coached back 2 back title teams in college and is one of the most respected minds in the sport. Players love him, but its because he gets the best out of people, not because hes a pushover like Brooks.
I really can't envision a better guy for the job. Bout to turn 50. Still young and hungry as ever.
The last piece to the dynasty. Congrats to me and OKC fans all over the world!

I'd rather have Billy. More proven as a head coach, seems like the perfect leader for OKC.

Alvin Gentry or Ettore Messina would be better.
Donovan would definitely be an upgrade over Brooks (honestly, who wouldn't?)
But he isn't that X's and O's kind of guy that OKC has been sorely lacking.
Give some structure to that offense and watch them break scoring records on their way to a title.

But would the players ride or die with those guys?
I prefer a white guy if I'm being honest here. A guy like Donavon is someone you see in those basketball movies about a white head coach leading a bunch of thugs. He has that type of aura to him, and I like it a lot.

Shit my bad, I was just assuming you were because I know nothing about you.
Lakers fans are the most abundant on here so it was the best guess. :lol
Point still stands tho, that title counts. It's the same franchise. And I have roots in Seattle... family members... I visit there for months every year..
That title means just as much as it would if it came in OKC

I wouldn't trust a college coach with no previous NBA coaching experience, rather it be assistant or whatever.
Pitino and Cal are HOFers and they both bombed. As is Tark, who won a championship at UNLV of all places (should have been b2b, with the second undefeated, except his players THREW the championship game) and he lasted like 20 games. Kruger has had success everywhere he went. He's the only coach in D1 history to take 5 different schools to the tournament. Bombed in the NBA... PJ managed to last for a little while (last coach for OKC before Brooks, btw) and he's a .431 career winner. He inherited a good Blazers team Adelman built up as his first gig in the 90s and a talented young OKC team. Did nothing in Portland and had OKC off to the worst start in NBA history before getting fired, I think.
You have Brad Stevens, who I actually think is one of the better coaches in the NBA, and he's yet to have a winning record in his two seasons in the shit east. Granted, a shit roster and I do think he ends up building something there. And then Larry Brown, who is arguably the greatest basketball mind of his generation tbh. Other than Naismith and maybe Smith, he has the best coaching tree (which I think is a decent measure to see how talented a coach is) in the history of basketball.
That's it since the 80s, right?
I know nothing about the Spurs assistant, but just based on Bud, Kerr to an extent, and even Brett Brown, I would take chance on a Pop protege.
btw, I don't think Donovan would fail at OKC. How can you with that roster, if it's healthy? The question is if he can get them over the hump and I don't know... Maybe Stevens is the start of a trend where college coaches don't suck in the pros.

Billy hasnt proven anything in the NBA. nothing
I'd rather have Gentry tbh. His system is PROVEN at the highest level

OKC has the talent for a great offense, but with the risk of playing Westbrook and Durant 40 minutes you discount their unimpressive defense.
OKC has been able to win because they can outscore their opponents with two players that can average at least 25 ppg.
They still need a 3 and D shooting guard, a defensive center, and a creator on offense off the bench.
Then you have the possible tension between Durant, Westbrook, and their new coach in terms of trust issues with the offense. The offense can go three ways: 2014 Westbrook, MVP Durant, or an unselfish ball movement offense. They have to be successful next season or Durant will walk and take his talents to a better city that can offer him the new max, same with Westbrook in two years.
