Man Attacked By Racist Dies

RIALTO, Calif. (KABC) -- A Rialto man beaten with an aluminum baseball bat in a suspected hate crime died of his injuries Thursday.

Armando Barron, 54, was repeatedly hit in the head with the bat on Sunday in the 300 block of North Maple Street. Surveillance video shows Barron's suspected attacker, 22-year-old Jeremiah Bell, running from the area soon after.


"From his confession, he admitted to leaving his house with the intention to kill somebody with a bat," Rialto Police Det. David Patilla said.

Bell was arrested the next day at his apartment on suspicion of attempted murder. Police initially believed the attack was random, but now believe he was targeting anyone who was not black.
