As far as I'm concerned, no league outside of the USA has this stupid rule. We have already seen 2 playoff games decided because of this shit. What's the point of this rule? Why does it even exist? The purpose of the game of basketball is to get the ball in the basket. What's wrong with doing that by touching the ball while it's already on the cylinder? That isn't cheating.

It would be a shit show. NBA players are too athletic. Scoring would be reduced so much Adam Silver would commit suicide.

It's not about cheating. It's about a fluid game of basketball.

The idea of changing this rule has intrigued me. Did it initially come into play when giant players were simply able to out-jump everyone and re-direct their teammates' shots whenever they pleased?

I initially objected the suggestion that the NBA rid of the "no touching while on the rim" rule, but I think that was merely my inner traditionalist showing. I suppose it couldn't harm things too much. I personally would have loved to have been able to attack a ball while it was still on the rim.

Soft shots that roll in would be extinct. Would reduce required skill even more in favor of leapers. Terrible idea.

It's not like Team USA used it much in FIBA, I can only remember a couple times where it happened.

Not necessarily, you have to be in a pretty good position to knock it out. It also gives the offense a chance to put it back in. Shooter's bounce would probably be gone though.
