That's what pisses me off about this. I was excited about the DCEU because Marvel needs some legit, healthy competition to keep from getting stagnant and I liked that DC was going for a different, director-driven vision. Instead they keep panicking and trying to copy Marvel while also saying that they're not Marvel because they're "darker" and "more serious."
We'll have the same problem comics did way before today. A severe lack of competition led to boring characters and horrible stories.

Just saw it. I didn't think DC could possibly do worse than BvS, but they did. Jesus what a mess. Not only was the plot shit, but the action choreography and editing was fvcking trash. The opening half hour with nonstop "clever" music cues was embarrassing. As horrible as I found BvS, it at the very least had a consistent tone and some great shots. There is nothing to recommend about this film. It wasn't even dumb fun.

I love when directors use music like that so I'm biased I guess.

If anything SS suffers from the problem all superhero movies have, bad/cartoonish villains. Except they might have the worst ever in Enchantress.

Yeah I have always criticized MCU movies for their weak ass villains, but Enchantress is pretty high on the bad villains list. I think it was mostly bad casting though.

DC movies, while a mixed bag, usually has villains that are pretty fleshed out.

The "best" DCEU villain so far has been Eisenberg as Lex. At least he had a personality.

As for the Enchantress, casting was never going to save that poorly written role.

Really? I thought Zod was the best one.

BTW, my comment had nothing to do with good, just that they are given more time and have better motivations than MCU villains in general. I know a lot of people have issues with Lex's motivations in BvS and Eisenberg's portrayal as Lex, but I thought it was still better than most MCU villains.

Agreed that, for the most part, MCU villains aren't fleshed out. Weird thing is that Ultron was extremely fleshed out in my opinion, but that quippy nature of the character didn't make him seem like a real threat. Loki's the best they've got honestly because he's the closest to the Joker in terms of execution, since he's mainly a trickster god who likes to stir the shit. His sibling rivalry with Thor has also worked in the Thor movies which, strangely enough, are also the weakest in the MCU.

The best villains the MCU has put out aside from Loki are on Netflix. I'd love to see Kingpin return in a Spider-Man film.

I think I'm alone in really loving Lex in that film. Yeah, it's a horrible version of the character, but as an isolated thing, he single-handedly made each scene he was in enjoyable for me. And while his motivations in the theatrical cut may have been muddled, the rooftop scene that kicks off the Superman/Batman battle was really well done, and had more tension in it than anything in SS.

In general, I think DC has better villains and Marvel has better heroes. I don't just mean movies either. Marvel's best villain IMO is Magneto, but Marvel doesn't have his movie rights. Batman is the coolest hero in DC IMO, but even then he frequently gets outshined by his own villains.

Yeah the contrast in the villains between their movies and shows is crazy. Both Kingpin and Kilgrave were amazing.

Loki definitely is their best and I was very disappointed with Ultron, he had huge potential. I don't think he's dead though and might return in a later film. Zimo wasn't too fleshed out but I really liked him as well. Solid performance with the screentime he was given.

I haven't seen Thor 2 yet. Worth it to see for Loki?

I think he was portrayed as too eccentric for me, to the point that some scenes were cringeworthy the first time I watched it. Overall I liked him but there was some overacting IMO.

Completely agreed with the rooftop scene. I actually can't wait to see him develop Lex. I'm thinking he'll play a role in JL movie as he learned a lot from the Kryptonian ship. It would be awesome that the events of BvS slowly turn him into a more true-to-comics Lex.

Seemed like he was doing a 30s-style gangster like James Cagney instead of the Joker. The script here was such a mess that I don't even know what to think of Leto's Joker, since he's barely in the movie. I guess he was alright?

He was fine. He was not better than Jack or Heath, but I don't think he was bad either. Most of his scenes were pointless and disrupted the flow of the movie, but that is not Leto's fault.

The worst part is they cut his scenes where he actually seemed most like the joker

Margot Robbie believes they were cut because they detracted from the main story: the mission. They already did that with what was left in, so it would have been really random. Now that they are planning a Harley Quinn spin off, they should have saved the Joker completely for the Harley and Batman solo movies.

Despite its flaws, BvS (UC) was really solid until the Knightmare/Apokolypse sequence. It was so jarring and could've been done so much better. I mean, I really like Mad Max Batman and it was shot well, but it just didn't belong there at all, or at least not executed well. From that point on, the movie falters quite a few times.

I honestly got pretty excited when they shave Lex's head in prison, but then his overacting in the "ding ding ding" scene kind of overshadowed that scene. I don't know, maybe I'm being harsh, but his performance could've been a lot better.

I don't get the Jim Carey comparison at all.

I don't think I can fairly judge his Joker tbh. There wasn't even 10 minutes worth in the movie. I need to see those deleted scenes.

Not sure what they're supposed to say. Filming for JL had already begun by the time BvS came out. They gave Affleck a bigger role in having a say in the movie, and put Geoff Johns as the head instead of Snyder.

They're doubling down because they've committed to his vision for the franchise. BvS is selling well on DVD, so it's going to take JL being a major, historic flop (which it won't be) for Snyder to finally get the boot.

Snyder's action scenes are epic though. All they need to do is slow things down a little... They jam packed a shitload of content in their last 2 films... At the detriment of critical quality... But now they've got their universe tree to start branching out... I am excited for Aquaman and WW.. Purely because I know they won't be overloaded with DC universe related "advertisements...

Just slow it down, keep the stories contained, and just produce a good result.. To me, less is always better than more. But not too less (Superman Returns)

You think so? I thought a hell of a lot happened, especially in the Ultimate Edition

Well I guess every movie could do with "better plot development"

I was more speaking of there being too much going on... I think a higher quality plot could have been achieved, by refining, cutting out the filler and using more of that screen time to flesh out the characters, develop them so we can better appreciate them as characters and understand their motives

The Ultimate Edition Cut does a better job at this, but there was still so much unnecesary plots, like the forced JL moments, which should have been during the credits, and the whole Doomsday arc. Cut all that out, and perhaps reshape the plot resolution to involve Lex in some other devious way.. Maybe as Batman goes to save Martha, Lex goes and reevaluates, taking Lois hostage, along with the spear.... Lex kills Superman with the Spear.. Play out the whole "I killed God" moment, Batman returns, captures Lex, and wallah... Kind of makes WW redundant.. She could easily be cut from the film... This would work well if they really played up the Lois hostage moment...

Well that's my thoughts anyways... Just too much going on in one movie... There was quality there, but it was hidden from a pile of irrelevant storylines and theatrical cuts.
