Interesting character. I don't like non lawyers in politics though. You got to know how to play the game to be any good at it. Most presidential candidates have no faith in their own chances at winning the office. They are running to increase their profile in their party so that they can make more money as pundits, TV and radio shows, and also just because they like the attention. The Republicans once made the colossal blunder of putting one such not-serious politician into the position of nominee for VP but that may have come down to one man's poor decision. The overall party isn't going to nominate this kind of candidate for the presidency. Does anyone think this guy gets more support than Jeb Bush?

A few dumb cynics might think that running a black candidate gives the Republicans the black vote but when you're facing over-90% opposition from a demographic it's about more than just race.
