For me its always been "did the most with less"
Like KD last year.....leading his team to 59 wins even though Westbrook missed half the season.
So yeah Harden deserved it more....but I hate him....so glad he didn't win...lol

Duncan definitely was deserving of 3 MVP's.
Jordan should have gotten MVP in all 3 years of his comeback.

Everyone needs to just accept that there's no hard guideline for MVP. Some years it's the best player on the best team, other years its the guy that's the most important to his specific team (which makes no sense given it's league MVP and not team MVP), and yet in other years it's the consensus best player in the league. Even then these get mitigated by the number of times certain players have gotten it or whether the player is liked or not. You can't really use MVP as a gauge for how good a player is in his career because it's so much based on circumstance and the whim of the voters.

2014- Tony Parker (Kevin Durant)
Parker was 7th on the team in WS/48. AND he missed 14 games.
Not gonna lie, I basically stopped looking at that point.

That's not what the usual criteria is though.
It's usually "The Best player on One of the best teams."

There shouldn't even MVP voting until after the finals. I don't care what anyone says, when you lose the title you weren't the best team. Not in basketball. The Jazz and Karl Malone were never better than the Bulls or Michael Jordan in any season.
Also, to me, John Stockton was more abnormally great at his position than Karl Malone. The active leaders in career assists are 1) Ancient Andre Miller 2) Chris Paul and 3) LeBron James. Stockton has nearly DOUBLE of andre milller and 9000 more assists than Chris Paul.

I just like the mental backflips people do to redefine the common definition of "valuable." Do you want 100 bucks or a dollar? Well if you think about it, a dollar in your situation is more valuable than 100 dollars.
What.
That's not what the usual criteria is though.
It's usually "The Best player on One of the best teams."
This.
Its not THE best team, its the best player on one of the two or three best teams with similar records.
Which is what I think it should be called. Don't call it MVP. Its not. It's a BPOOTOTTBT.

:oldlol: Tony Parker in 2014.
Kawhi surpasses him almost 2 years ago.

for me, MVP means a player who means so much to the team that when he's gone, the team goes to shit.

Absolutely this. Hence the term, 'Most Valuable'.

It doesn't matter if it's Kawhi or TP, what matters is the flaw in the argument that the best player on the best team should be the MVP. There's more to that decision.

This is the most accurate.

That would be Harden.
Because had he not played, Jason Terry would have been the best player for the Rockets during the regular season

steph carried klay thompson, draymond green, bogut, (no lee), andre igudola (lol), and a bunch of no name players to 67 wins.
let me repeat that.
67 wins.
let me say it one more time.
67 wins.
okay once more.
67 wins.
he took that cast to 67 wins.
he deserved it.

That cast?
That cast had 2 potential DPOY candidates, the second best SG in the league, the 7th pick two years ago, and the backup PF (Lee) averaged 18 and 9 just a year ago.
Oh yeah, and Iggy.
Must have been tough for Curry :lol
GTFOH :oldlol:
Harden has a 37 year old PG (who is really a SG), the back up PG is 37, Dwight, DMo and Bev have missed 100 games, the Pistons paid Josh Smith $30 million to leave, and Trevor Ariza who was laughed at when Houston shelled out $8 million for him. Oh, and a rookie as the back up C who played a total of four games before the playoffs.

they only had one dpoy candidate :facepalm
jimmy butler, d-wade, and monta ellis are clearly better than bird-fed system player klay :facepalm
james harden has the best center in the past 9 years and the best post-player in the game today (d-mo)
lee was injured lol
what about 7-3-3 iggy? :oldlol:
meanwhile harden had the best post-playing big in d-mo, the top defensive players at their respective positions (dwight, ariza, and beverly), an extremely re-energized and motivated josh smith, and obviously one of the best benches in the nba.
just stop it. curry carried an underwhelming cast to an extremely historic 67 wins in the west. it would had been a crime not to give him an mvp. and he shattered his own 3-point record while shooting an extremely high percentage in relation to volume, add to that his only significant help can't create his own shots off the dribble very well, and that curry played significantly less minutes than harden and you have yourself the true mvp.
go to bed.

Absolutely this. Hence the term, 'Most Valuable'.
That would be team MVP not league MVP. Why should a player be rewarded for being on a bad team? Might as well call it the best player to worst GM ratio winner. The award is should to be the most valuable player in the league regardless of what team they're on. But even then it's not a clear cut and fair award. So really it's like the Oscars, every year it's really just a popularity vote. This year Curry was the easiest one with vote for. He isn't hated like Harden, was on the best team, has a great style of play and attitude. Harden looks like he has food in his beard and he flops like a little girl. It was an easy choice to make really. You can't just go on stats either, IBM already has their stats based award.
He was also the only All-Star (voted by coaches), the only All-NBA player, and led the team in scoring and assists throughout the regular season and playoffs (even led the team in scoring in the Finals).
Scored ONE more point than Kwahi in 9 more minutes in the Finals. You do know that offense is only half of the game and that guarding Lebron was MUCH more important than guarding those pos PGs on the Heat.
And ONE more point than Duncan and how much less importance to the defense throughout the playoffs.
