Thoughts?

Very interesting coming from Asians since they are very tolerant of others.

"We use foreigners to increase the price of real estate"

Now that's something you don't hear in the western world often.

Q:"How about Indians, are they cheap?"

A:"About the same as blacks but with less personality. We don't use them often"

:lol

Dumbass white "liberals" will be shocked when they finally realize that every country in the world has far more racism than any of the white ones.

Asians tolerant of others? In Korea they treat the Chinese as second class citizens. I was told by multiple Koreans that they were genetically superior due to a lack of body hair (blacks and whites much closer to apes...)

And the Chinese tolerant? Dude. Have you ever traveled?

I hope you were being sarcastic

lol no they don't :facepalm

if anything korea and the chinese get along really well. china is very conservative also, and they have a common enemy they both hate in Japanese occupation.

they also are very into each others entertainment to the point they mix a lot. lots of chinese watch korean drama's and know korean actors and music where as lots of koreans love chinese action stars.

its actually weird to me how korea doesnt dislike china more for supporting and protecting Nkorea tho.

Interesting. Up until a few decades ago, Koreans were considered nothing more than laborers and sex slaves by Europeans and the Japanese.

I've lived in Korea for 4 years (still living here) and yes, they are ridiculously racist over here.

It's not a big deal though - they have been segregated and shielded from the world and have gone through some tough stuff (like wars). Their survived depended on a strong nationalistic self belief and it is the reason their economy and country has ascended so rapidly in the last twenty years.

In the four years I've been here I've seen more social progress than I have in twenty in the US. It's easy when a country is small, everyone talks to each other, and their is significant population density.

Koreans truly believe they are superior to other Asians (especially Chinese). It doesn't prevent them from thinking that way economically. They also Chinese people to basically buy up half of their Hawaii (Jeju Island). Their is a lot of cross country entertainment as well.

Similarly, they have strong internal beliefs about foreigners as a whole, and specific views about each race. They like white people the most, but of course don't trust them.

However, the racism there is not like the racism here. It's more like preferences than some deep seeded hate. As in, I prefer pizza to pasta. Overall, people are actually super super nice. They may believe other things but on the surface they act nice for the most part. That goes a long way. Additionally, Koreans adapt pretty quickly to change and there has been a lot of social progress (due to the internet/more foreigners in the country etc) and there are now many Koreans that are very liberal and open minded.

I don't blame a country of people that haven't traveled outside their part of the world for the beliefs they have. You just set a good example of why their thinking makes no sense and they self educate themselves.

Popular culture is different to every day culture.

The average American loves Will Smith, but you will find the average American stereotypes young black men, or has experienced some level of racist feelings towards black people.

Koreans are very racist towards Chinese people. They have second rate jobs, don;t get fair trials, and are often used as scape goats in open cases.

On a side note, Asians with darker skin are seen as "poor" and probably spend their lives working outside. My brother in law is Cambodian, and has darker skin, and was treated as a second class citizen in his own country. People in Korea wear whitening cream, to change the complexion of their skin. People in the US get fake tans to make it seem like they have been outside or on vacation - signs of wealth.

It's a funny world we live in

As someone who lived in both America and an Arab country, I'd say the people most racist against arabs are other arabs.

yeah the country has come a very long way in a very short span through a focus on education and tech sciences. they have no natural resources to sell to the world which is the easiest economic growth model.

thing is there is a pretty big difference between the old schools and younger generations in korea. the old schools are very racist or homogenous to koreans.

yeah they do tend to make comments about darker skinned looking koreans but again thats something that is changing as well since younger generations want to be tanned and go tanning as opposed to pale being a more old fashioned look of beauty.

yeah most people in america at least won't understand so much what war and occupation atrocities to family and friends makes you prejudice for/against.

Nope. Not even.
One of the highest youth suicide rates in the world.
Corporal punishment has been outlawed in schools, but is still practiced.
Kids are scared by the thought of being different, and bully anyone considered to be "other".

You should spend some time in Korea, it will enlighten you. You could maybe open up a whitening cream shop and make it rich, as long as they haven't reached market saturation. If so, maybe the idea is to market a cheaper product aimed at teenagers :)

suicide rate is so high because the society is so competitive. it puts a enormous amount of pressure on young people. there is some ridiculous stat with younger people that have higher education i can't remember .

but you can't go that far so fast in a country's development without the downsides of what societal pressure does on the negative.

i'll be going there hopefully in a few years when i'm not so tied down here. really can't wait to travel asia and europe...
