Austin needs to go to a therapist and sort out his daddy issues.

okay im not being serious about getting PAID, but there were people saying he doesn't even belong in the nba, and here he is, in the second round helping his team very much.

Relative to his expectations he is doing very well.

edit: negged 3 times :( for this thread

wow guys I thought we were friends :(

He reminds me of JJ Reddick. Simply not an NBA-level talent; belongs in NCAA or the minor-leagues. But the way JJ has willed himself into being an effective starter in the NBA is amazing. Who knows what Austin Rivers might do.

But watching him now, he really doesn't belong on the court. He's the scrappy pickup player who gets 7 points of his team's 21 through hustle and because no one really takes the trouble to guard him. If anyone really guarded him he'd do nothing. His one and only talent seems to be to blow by people like Derrick Rose and Westbrook do; except his first step usually doesn't get him past his man, and he always seems surprised at this.

His lay ups are killer

He's had 2 decent games in the playoffs..out of 8 games total. He's really not that good. He defends. Sometimes he hits shot. He struggles to make lay ups.

Sad to see players like him earn close to the minimum while contributing in the playoffs while Kobe gets like $25 M just to be a team cancer. :(

Redick was twice the players Rivers is coming out of College. Redick was always gonna find a place in the league, because of his elite shooting. Rivers isn't elite at anything. Redick turned himself into a starting caliber NBA player by improving his athleticism and defense.

From what I remember, Redick was one of the greatest college players of modern times.

But everyone knew that level of success wasn't going to translate to the NBA, and he'd have to be a hustle, grit, and hard work guy of the "knockdown shooter" variety.

Rivers was never elite, but imagine if he had played 4 years of college. By the 4th year he'd be scoring 20+ and blowing by guys at will. But he doesn't have "blow-by" talent at the NBA level; he has above average athleticism, mediocre instincts and reflexes, and seems to have a size disadvantage. Being unable to be Derrick Rose at this level, in my opinion he won't be anything.

He's actually not that bad a player. Just came out too raw instead of developing.

OP the foresight you displayed with this thread is amazing, top tier instincts from a true nba fan. Good work.

At this point I think OKC should try trading Westbrook for Rivers, he is younger and has way more upside and potential. But I think Clips will just hang up laughing.

Idk about getting paid, BUT, the kid has played well enough to stay in the L.

He made a huge mistake leaving College early. (or, might have made the best choice)

He needs to work on his fundamentals. If his ball handling improved, his strength, his dribble moves, Etc. he needs major work.

I think leaving as a Senior would have done him wonders as far as his development as a player. OR, it could have exposed him if he didn't improve. Wouldn't. Have. Been. Drafted.

A lotto pick, too.

He's still scrubby though. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.

Dude, let it go you f.aggot. Seriously. We get it. You don't like Kobe. It's pathetic that you continue to try and make it a point to over and over do it, and say the same stupid shit over again. We get it. It's pathetic how you try so hard to be someone on a message board. You can stop now

I'd say the $7 million he's made while learning on the job proves otherwise. Also, staying in college longer isn't always the best preparation. Sometimes, you need to just get thrown into the fire. There are plenty of examples of guys who stayed 3-4 years and still turned out lousy in the NBA.

That's great for him, but terrible for the fans whose team drafted him, having to sit through 3 years of shit only to see him develop years down the road on another team.

By paid you mean minimum level type of contract? He won't even get the MLE unless some team gambles on his potential.

You have potential free agents guards like Danny Green, Monta Ellis, Luis Williams, Imam Shumpert, Jeremy Lin, Aaron Brooks and the list goes on and on.
