Hey guys. I just have a few questions I want to ask you. Other betas here like Rose City, RMGW, whomever else can feel free to chime in as well.


So I notice your vag1nas always get the sandiest over these sporadic issues where a minority is mishandled while evading police and it results in injury or death.

What I want to know is... why do you care? I know most of you are proud atheists. And none of you are actually black.

So what is the reasoning for you getting so upset? I'm not saying it's wrong to. But I'm asking you to articulate what it is the evolutionary/psychological reason that makes you so mad about THIS issue more than so many others that also need to be addressed.

If you were actually black, I could understand the natural solidarity, even if I may think you could be more objective about it. But you guys have no connection to these individuals or communities, yet you completely fail to be rational. Your response is far more drastic over this than about the much higher rates of crime committed by these same minorities.

You DONT get all belligerent about the violence black citizens commit. You don't get riled up about the cycle of awful parenting leading to lack of guidance leading to more robbery, crime, drugs in these communities. You don't seem to really care ABOUT these communities, its only when a symbol of authority makes news for an encounter-gone-wrong with the poor minority that you get into "everyone look at me shout about the horrible injustice that has to stop!" mode.


And there are plenty of other important issues that you guys remain silent on if they don't have to do with blacks, or gays. You aren't up in arms on basically any other issues except when it's easy, and often misleading, to take aim at the big bad easy target. The cops, the corporations, the christians, the white people. You guys seem to get a sort of pleasure from throwing rocks at goliath, EVEN when Goliath has nothing to do with it.

You seem to have a huge "resentment" complex.

And I'm just curious if this stems from having a beta perspective/social experience. Are you excessively sensitive about equality because you always feel like a misfit, or an outcast, inferior etc?

See, for many of us, we kind of look at the totality of factors in these issues before measuring our response. Was the guy belligerent and resistant? Did he have an extensive criminal record? How common are these incidents compared to incidence of the reverse? And in most of these cases, most of us don't find a reason to go into HYPER tantrum mode.

But the betas always do. Oh the Horror, Droid, kentatm, etc., y'all know the list. Deucewallaces is as ghostly pale as it gets, but his number one concern in life is calling other people racist. What is the drive for this? I feel like it has to be something more self serving. It's like, the only thing that gives deucewallace an identity. He's "the sensitive guy." Because again, he's not nearly as vocal about anything else important. And he's not even black, yet seems to get offended more easily about race than actual blacks. So is he trying to show everyone he's the leader of the social justice revolution? Is it about inventing some kind of position of authority/importance for HIMSELF? I don't know. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

No i'm not: i'm just sayin it's hypocritical to thoughtlessly diss Christianity while crusading in favour of its moral presumptions, which are based on a religious absolute, and developed as a result of said absolute. It is impossible to derive any coherent moral system without an absolute, so it is childish for these pseudo-Christians to mock people who have taken a leap of faith in order to make their morality somewhat consistent, because their's simply isn't. Man can create his own absolutes, sure, but they will always remain arbitrary, just like Kant's categorical imperative.

Most people don't bother to think about these things, and so their morality remains instinctive and intuitive; most atheists and Christians accept their positions without really thinking them through, and then proceed to mock one another like the typical tribalistic clowns they are. When I look at these silly internet flame wars I keep allowing myself to get pulled into with people I don't even know... Well, it just makes my dear heart blister. You DONT get all belligerent about the violence black citizens commit. You don't get riled up about the cycle of awful parenting leading to lack of guidance leading to more robbery, crime, drugs in these communities. You don't seem to really care ABOUT these communities, its only when a symbol of authority makes news for an encounter-gone-wrong with the poor minority that you get into "everyone look at me shout about the horrible injustice that has to stop!" mode.


And there are plenty of other important issues that you guys remain silent on if they don't have to do with blacks, or gays. You aren't up in arms on basically any other issues except when it's easy, and often misleading, to take aim at the big bad easy target. The cops, the corporations, the christians, the white people. You guys seem to get a sort of pleasure from throwing rocks at goliath, EVEN when Goliath has nothing to do with it.

See, for many of us, we kind of look at the totality of factors in these issues before measuring our response. Was the guy belligerent and resistant? Did he have an extensive criminal record? the facts of this individual case should be carefully considered by the authorities responsible and justice for those involved should be administered on the basis of the legal system. that is why we have it.

you are narcissistic so you assume everybody else is too. i'm no stranger to what you're describing. but nor does that fact discount the gazillions of other things happening in my brain and body as it plays with the circumstances around me. these kind of questions are too complicated.

there are elements of reality in that description just as much as there are elements of convenience and self-service in the fact that you're the one making the ad hominem.







to answer your question more cogently, we care about "mishandled minorities" because of our ideological and philosophical outlook. without going into much detail, an important part of that outlook are ideals of justice that we strive to live by. i put a great deal of weight on the veil of ignorance as an admirable principle, which by definition requires me to care about the suffering of others.

but these aren't just theoretical notions. it literally hurts to be in the presence of somebody suffering, especially so if you are interacting with someone who is suffering. it stands to reason that it would hurt to know other people are suffering too, even if i have no direct connection to them. it is a reasonable abstraction of a basic moral and empathetic impulse.

acting on that impulse is naturally where things break down. there are many impulses you have to act on. like staying alive for one. maintaining your body. pursuing passions. tending to relationships. heeding moral restraint is another one of these, because ignoring it is very destructive for people. and destructive people tend to ignore it.

now consider two sets of phenomenona, each several decades old. violent black communities in baltimore and a federally prosecuted drug war. this is not to suggest that these are the only two factors to consider, and that domestic violence and parental abuse and bitter resentment and all that other crap are wholly irrelevant.

we speak out against the federally prosecuted drug war because we have a say. take generic sensitive beta white boy from boston, the subject of this thread. if he subscribes to the basic moral principle i outlined above, and if he believes his voice has democratic influence, he would be perfectly within reason to lobby against the federally prosecuted drug war. now the same subject living in baltimore would have many more options, like volunteering time with under-resourced social service organizations.

to what extent a subject succeeds depends largely on tactics. lobbying and volunteering are two of a thousand. the tactic you are recommending to affect change in baltimore, which is put the responsibility on the individuals directly implicated by openly criticizing them, is about as useful a tactic as smashing shop windows. telling somebody directly to their face why they suck accomplishes nothing, except to antagonize them and make them more hostile.

the overarching moral principle operative in the people you're obsessed with is that i should care for others because what if it were me?

beyond that, its impossible to generalize. each case of suffering brings to bear an incalculable set of factors. conflicting human interests, environmental restraints, assessments of risk and priority, predictable consequences, plausible viability. it is up to each individual to understand and act on all of these impulses and extenuating factors as best they can.
