Assuming Thibs gets fired of course.

Would be the perfect duo, would basically just have to hire a head coach who can manage rotations somewhat well.

Well, we already know that, but I highly doubt either will take a step down and be an assistant coach again. They'd head coach college ball and get paid before they do that.

D'antoni is way too strong of a personality to be an assistant...unless it's a special setting like team USA. Money might be enough to tempt him, but he's still gonna be a weasel with his eye on the head coach's chair. The little I got to know about the guy as Lakers coach leads me to believe he has no interest in another job unless he can instill his coaching philosophy without objection.

Between them they'd play 8 players 45 minutes a game and get to the playoffs with just their bench healthy

So starters are going to play 42+ minutes and do 7 seconds or less every possession? Sounds like death

Thibs is a great head coach so he's not going o be anyone's assistant any more. Also it would be hard to find players that fit both guys' systems.

basketball is not football.

Also i think the myth that Mike D'antoni is a good coach has been debunked.... numerous times.

he needs the correct players to fit his system

the man revolutionized the nba offense, pop admits that he took most of their offense from the suns.

the spread pick and roll, the corner threes, the way pretty much every team plays nowadays, comes from d'antoni
