Dude has crazy athletic ability that reminds me of a young shaq, but that's as far as it goes. Rookie Shaq had ten fold skills over this guy, but it got me thinking thread title.

Aside from the skill, I think he actually might be less agile than Shaq and significantly less strong. Shaq is a tier or three above DJ.

DeAndre is 6-9 1/2, and weighs maybe 275.

Shaq was a shade under 7-1 and weighed between 300-350+ in his career.

Shaq had a 35-36 inch vertical, DeAndre's probably pushing 40+. He's one of the best jumping big men in league history and he can get up off one or two feet. Incredible leaping ability for a man his size. Other than that, Shaq is easily his physical superior. Far bigger, stronger, more agile and coordinated, better footwork, better reflexes and better touch.

Javelle McGee is closer to Shaq than DeAndre Jordan in terms of size/athleticism. Jordan is basically Dwight Howard minus 20 lbs of muscle and a hook shot.

That and without Dwights basketball IQ. (which is extremely underrated IQ. The man is a very intelligent defensive player...something Jordan is not) Honestly I think Dwight looks more athletic out there at 29 and 12 years in the league now that he's healthy. It might just be that he's just a significantly better basketball player though so he just looks a lot better doing what he does than Jordan does.

Jordan's max vertical was measured at 30.5".

Basically 6-9 1/2 with a 31" vertical. Albeit, an enormous wingspan of 7-6.

And I agree with the rest of your post. Shaq was simply a better athlete, much bigger, and a far greater post player. Jordan's offense is so pathetic that the Clippers don't even have any designed plays for him. His post game is virtually non-existent.

That draft measurement is either a misprint, or he's greatly increased his vertical since then. There are a number of dunks/blocks, in which his head his rim level or even a bit higher. He's definitely a great jumper.

Not getting in to camera angles, but a 6'10 person that almost hits his head on the rim is jumping 38" to actually hit it... so that means 30-36" is "almost".

From most Jordan dunks/jumps I've seen, his head seems to be a couple inches below the rim. So about a 34" leap? Just so explosive, it looks like more. Can't explain how he jumps.

He was about rim level or an inch higher on his dunk on Brandon Knight. Just google DJ Jordan with his head at rim level and you'll get some good examples. But I'd be fine with staying at 38-40 max, that's probably better than my first estimate.
