Isiah/Ewing are rated fine, Allen Iverson too.

No one cares about Melo, he has no legacy. Zero titles, zero MVPs, zero finals appearances. Empty stats.

None of those people are underrated.

Underrated players should be people like Mark Price (guy was a marksman) or what not

Will Melo make hof?

He should.

Basketball HOF isn't hard to make and Melo has had success in College and International level. If he won a title in the NBA it would further cement his HOF quota.

I agree with Pettit and D-Rob to an extent.

KG is ranked fine. Cousy is overrated IMO.

One of the more knowledgeable posters here... you really think Cousy's ranking is fine?

And I have a KG bias. So he's my personal "underrated" legend.

Evenly with Tim Duncan. Second tier. 8-12 range.

T1:
MJ, Magic, Bird, Wilt, Russell, Kareem, Shaq, Oscar

T2:
Duncan, KG, Dream, Kobe, Lebron

On another note.. Oscar is hugely underrated. I want to replace KG with Oscar.

So edited list:
Oscar
Pettit
Cousy
DRob
AI

Seems generous for KG imo. Especially considering Duncan is commonly ranked above 8th all-time (5-7).

I think I'd list KG as the #2 all-time PF, but Kobe/Jerry West/Oscar fill my 11-13 slots. He's probably top 14-17 for me though it's always tough to fill the upper ranks without forgetting someone.

For me it's hard to rank Cousy. Accolades wise, he's has an argument for a top 10 resume, but I don't think his ability and stats support that. He could arguably have the worst MVP in league history (granted, that was the first MVP) and only started winning titles when Russell and Heinson Jones the Celtics.

He particularly didn't play well in a pivotal game 7 (along with Bill Sharman) for his 1st title. There have been quotes on how the team was playing better basketball after Cousy retired and went on to win 5 more titles without him.

It's probably a greatness vs on court ability argument. I give him his respect as a pioneer, that much he deserves.

Hence my admitting it's a "personal bias" thing, and I consider him underrated.

I try to separate the team from the individual when possible.

Yep. The top 40 some scorers in nba history are all in the HOF, Carmelo is going to accidentally end up top 10ish but sure that doesn't mean anything. Never lost a playoff series his team was favored in. Gold medals, NCAA title. Carmelo IS under rated, because most people only recognize speed and athletic ability. The best is yet to come from Carmelo, a lot of ish will hate that.

When it comes to a guy who's a top 10 all time caliber player at his position peak wise BUT YET many don't put him on that level is Bob McAdoo. Three straight scoring titles and MVP of the league. And was really a precursor to Dirk as a stretch PF (Legit PF size, prolific scorer, great shooter, SF kind of scoring skillset). So McAdoo for me is underrated in that realm. HE REVOLUTIONZED basketball!!

For a great player who was a high profile box office attraction and was a major cog in the NBA marketing machine, my guy Nique is underrated. For starters he revolutionized the SF position with his athletic ability.

What Baylor and Dr. J did for the gliders early on, Nique did the same for pure vertical power hops. He's scored MORE POINTS than any SF in NBA history! Think about that! He scored more NBA points than Bird, Doc, Hondo, Pippen, English, Baylor, Barry, etc.

For Nique to not make 50 greatest or first ballot HOF shows how underrated he was. Especially given his high profile and helping grow the game in the NBA's Golden Era. Dude was a MAJOR RIVAL to MJ and Bird. Two of the top six GOAT!! That's what level Nique was on!!

For guys who were great players but had their primes cut short due to injury, I think Moncrief, Mark Price, Andrew Toney, Jermaine O'Neal, Brandon Roy, Paul Westphal and Marques Johnson need to be shown more props too. By the age of 30, all of these guys primes were done in by injury.

The guys like Hill, T-Mac, Walton, KJ, and Penny get their rightful love. The other guys I named don't. Even though they were in the top five at their given positions when they got hurt.
