The only reason Joakim Noah has to flood to the strongside in the picture below is because floor-spreaders on the weakside have drawn all but 2 defenders away from the strongside.. Noah's flooding in this GIF shows that strong-side floods are only necessary because of spacing on the weakside.

Otoh, previous eras didn't have floor-spreaders on the weakside drawing defenders away from the strongside, so the strongside was typically ALREADY FLOODED with all 5 defenders, as seen below:

In the example of no-spacing shown above, there's already 2 bigs waiting where Joakim Noah was flooding to.. Strongside flooding automatically occurs when there isn't spacing or weakside floor-spreaders.. Overt strongside flooding only becomes necessary when weakside floor-spreaders exist to draw defenders away from the strongside.. No spacing > spacing + flooding/shading..
Due to spacing and weakside floor-spreaders, today's player doesn't faces as many defenders on the strongside as previous eras.. They never face a strongside with all 5 defenders on it because the weakside spacing has been standardized to ENSURE that doesn't happen.

Noah with obvious paint camping. MJ never faced that. He had a clear path at all times.

I'm starting to think 3ball is a LeBron fan. He keeps continuously complimenting him by even comparing him to the GOAT when he's like at least 8-9 spots behind.
It's like continuously going out of your way to prove that Kareem is better than Moses Malone. The comparison compliments Moses way more than it compliments Kareem.

Exactly - unlike previous eras, Lebron always has multiple teammates on the weakside spacing the floor, creating porous defense on the strongside and enabling most of the plays he makes.
But in previous eras, there was no spacing and there was frequently nobody on the weakside all - the lack of spacing meant MJ faced strongsides that had all 5 defenders on it, as the example in the OP demonstrates.. Today's wings NEVER have to face a strongside that contains all 5 defenders.. Ever.
Spacing is the main reason why many players such as Dennis Rodman say Lebron would be "just another player" in the 80's.. I think he'd be better than that, but he wouldn't be anywhere near the best player itl.. In a no-spacing environment, to be a great scorer, you must be a GREAT mid-range shooter, ala MJ, Bird, Dominique, Melo, Kobe, etc.. Period.

Why avoid the point this thread makes?.. Lebron faces less defenders on the strongside because he always has multiple teammates on the weakside spacing the floor.. MJ's didn't have spacing, so he frequently faced a strongside that contained all 5 defenders.. It's very simple.
Way to avoid the point - today's spaced-out offenses always have multiple teammates on the weakside spreading the floor, which allows today's wings to face less defenders on the strongside than previous era wings... Period.

step1. Be the best finisher of all time among perimeter players.
step2. Get some Cheap 3 points shooters.
step3. Drive to the lane forcing at least 2-3 opposition players to converge towards you to stop the drive leaving their men open.
step4. watch as those cheap 3 point shooters get wide open 3s.

thanks spacing!
In the Lebron picture, the only reason Joakim Noah has to shade in the first place is because Mosgov is spreading the floor near the 3-point line and providing spacing - but this spacing didn't exist in previous eras.. Without spacing, defenders were already in closer proximity, so shading was less overtly necessary and more automatic.
In the Jordan GIF, 2 bigs were already waiting where Joakim Noah was shading.. And the lack of spacing meant those bigs were already there without having to leave their man wide open 20 feet away like Noah did.. No spacing is simply makes things MUCH tougher on offense - of course, everyone already knows that.

All five defenders on strong-side, typical of no spacing.. Today's wings never face this, ever - they ALWAYS have teammates on weakside spreading the floor

^^^ Indeed, you just posted MJ's formula for 6/6.. Lebron can't finish at the rim or dominate like MJ, so he's 2/5.
Unfortunately for his fans, Lebron is unable to dominate like MJ despite routinely facing less defenders on the strongside than MJ faced.. At all times, today's wings have teammates on the weakside spacing the floor and taking defenders away from the strongside.
Otoh, MJ didn't have floor-spacing or weakside floor-spreaders, so consequently, he frequently faced a strongside that had all 5 defenders in it.. Today's wings NEVER face a strongside with all 5 defenders in it.
