Very surprised he's been a plus for them. Still think he's not a starter in the league long term, but a good pickup for a 2nd rounder

Having ESPN U I have been watching Austin since he was in HS. Even when he was on the Pelicans I watched him because I picked New Orleans as one of my 5 teams on league pass. The only thing this retard lacked was confidence because watching him he ha absolutely all tools to be a great guard. He's as quick as hell in the halfcourt, and his shot is average. He had poor offensive coaching because this guy gets to the rim so easily yet he's throwing up these weak ass floaters half the time it only leads me to believe he was coached that way in New Orleans. He's finally attacking like a prototypical guard and not hesitating to shoot. I think he was a product of bad coaching in New Orleans (Weak floaters despite quick drives to the rim, not even trying to finish strong, hesistating to shoot while despite being an average shooter). Also he lacked a ton of confidence and I think he finally had his coming out party Game 3. I mean if you have the entire LA crowd chanting your name in the playoffs I doubt you will ever lack confidence again

:biggums:

his biggest problem is his overconfidence

its clear that hes been 'the man' his hole career, he doesnt know how to fit in, he just knows how to get his, but he cant get his at the nba level, hes just not talented enough.

he shoots so many floaters because he just isnt athletic enough/crafty enough to get all the way to the rim, so he has to settle.

Rivers hasnt been the man since high school. Most NBA players were the man in high school

im not hating

hes just a mediocre player, who is overconfident

hes gotten hot from 3 at the right time, hes still only averaging 5ppg in the playoffs, despite his hot shooting.

He has shown he can get to the rim at will and has good man defense. His shot is falling as well. One thing he doesn't have is natural point guard instincts. He does not create for his teammates. He doesn't look to pass first. He is your typical quick pg looking to score. That is what will prevent him from being a starter. That style is fine as a backup. He can have a nice long career as a good backup which is huge as everyone thought he was on his way out of the league.

I think a player like Austin needs some leash and a coach who believes in him to feel comfortable playing his style. Lucky for him he plays for his dad.

Could Crawford be had? Will doc give him up to clear a path for a bigger role for his son? Seems like it would be worth a chance to take advantage of that situation.
