Not set in stone yet, and this could be a contract negotiation tactic, but it would be insane if this happens. The show will re-cast if he does, but you'd need multiple people to recast him unless you have an excellent impersonator that can do all the same voices.

I've read conflicting reports, some with the producers saying they will re-cast "IF" he does not return. The Simpsons producers could add money to change his mind.

[QUOTE]Simpsons show runner Al Jean posted to Twitter that Shearer has been offered the same deal as its other voice actors. Jean added that the show is prepared to recast Shearer

Turning down 14 million for a few voice recordings for two years?

Even though I don't watch the show anymore, I hope he stays. That stinks.

After 25 years of doing this, I'm sure he is set for life. He could probably make up some of that money doing other projects too.

Show has been on the air since 1989 (shorts on Tracey since 1987.) Give the guy a rest.

They should have that much recording of his voice that they can say anything in his voice..

Some of my earliest childhood memories are of watching a Simpsons episode... and I'm 28 years old.

I had no idea that show was still producing new episodes :lol

Yea, but prolly less of a piss take and actually mold the voice not just have him say the same words he's said before in the same way and make it sound ridiculous like the south park creators wanted it to.

Still my favorite show other than south Park. I prefer it over family guy any day.

I'm sure for legal reasons they can't do that.. I can be wrong though. If they're paying them for the use of their work forever then sure.

Shearer is in 70s now. Money might not be the only factor.

How they are gonna replace many of those recurring characters Shearer had voiced anyway?

Other voice actors who can do the voice impressions I guess..

heh... billy west by himself could probably cover shearer's and all the other male actors on that show.

anyway when i first heard about this i was in a bit of shock. how could he turn down the exact same contract the other cast members got? all he needed to do was phone his lines in... literally.

his claim that the contract prevented him from doing side projects sounds pretty weird considering that he's been doing side projects for a long time now and the contract didn't seem to stop him in the past.

sounds like he's just tired of doing the show. the fact that it's mostly sucked since season ten probably doesn't give him any extra motivation.

end of the day the characters will go on, they'll be voiced by excellent talent, and it will hardly matter anyway. not even the treehouse of horror episodes are funny anymore, and those were some of the best eps of all.

The first voice actor that comes into my mind is Billy West as well. Still, I'm not sure West can do more baritone voices like Skinner or Smithers as good as Shearer.

Wasn't he the one we heard about previously who was trying to get more merchandise money?

Anyway the show should have ended years ago.

The whole voice cast went into a contract dispute a few years ago. They were being asked to take a substantial pay cut. They threatened to walk, and wound up taking a more minor pay cut, but it was still significant. From what I read, he was the most upset about it. So when they came back and asked for another cut, I guess he decided it just wasn't worth it.

I don't know that the whole case get's paid the same. A handful of people do the majority of the work. Marge (Julie Kavner iirc), does herself, and the other Bouviers. Yeardly Smith mostly does Lisa. The woman who does Bart does most of the kids. Then it's Azaria, Shearer, and Castellaneta doing the majority of the rest of the cast, with Castellaneta doing Homer as well. I would think he'd get a bigger chunk than anyone else.

You could also make the case that Shearer is the most famous outside of the show. He's giving up the most to do the work, because he can and does do other work, including his own stuff (I know he writes for a few publications, and I think he has a podcast, and does a movie every couple years). Azaria is probably the only guy with a comparable resume. At least recently.

Anyway. At this point in the show they could probably replace the voice work with impressionests off the street if the needed to.
