View Full Version : Who would you put around Anthony Davis?
http://*********.com/salaries/new_orleans.htm
In 2016-17 the Pelicans officially only have 3 players on their payroll. Tyreke, Jrue, and Pondexter for a total of $24.8 million. Obviously, AD is going to be a restricted FA and will get the max which from what I gather, will be huge that year because of the cap increase and Davis will likely get near $20 million for that season bringing the Pelicans total salary to $44.8 million.
The salary cap is reported to be around $80 million for 2016-17 which would leave the Pelicans roughly $35.2 million to sign players.
I love this scenario because it puts the Pelicans into arguably an amazing position to put together a contender. Davis' cap that season will "only be" $20 million because the max is 25% of the salary cap. If he makes certain criteria, that 25% gets bumped to 30% and he gets the standard 7.5% increase each year, but that only happens AFTER that season. This allows the Pelicans a lot of room to sign quality players during that season while Tyreke and Jrue are signed for relatively small contracts.
Realistically, who do you think the Pelicans are able to pick up in Free Agency or through trades? Who would you pick up if you were them?

I would put the Spurs around him, or in other words replace Duncan with Anthony Davis when the time is right.

They could add Monroe or Hibbert.
Davis + Monroe = Pretty balanced
Davis + Hibbert = Defensive frontcourt

Sounds like you'd want him playing next to guys like Ryan Anderson, Jrue Holliday, Tyreke Evans, and Quincy Pondexter.

He'll go home to Chicago once he does his time with NO, same as Jabari Parker up in Milwaukee :applause:

God, I hope so because NO isn't a destination most players want to end up, even if it gives them a great shot at contending.
Can you imagine KD signing with NO? Neither can I.

This GSW/Memphis series is going to be a great indication as to how teams will be built in the coming years. Memphis has a tremendous front court that's well balanced, but the Warriors are finding ways to dominate Memphis and play their style.
The League is definitely looking like it's shifting towards small ball and that would mean AD's going to most likely be played at C. A stretch 4 that plays defense would be my preference.

New Orleans needs to just trade Ryan Anderson, Gordon and Jrue for draft picks and keep Evans, Asik and Davis.

I agree about Anderson and Gordon, but I would definitely keep Jrue.
Jrue is a good playmaker and defender, excellent shooter, and isn't selfish. His injury this season isn't anything serious. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe his injury this season was re-aggravating his stress fracture from last season because he didn't fully heal yet. That shouldn't be a problem going forward as it's just a bone injury and nothing ligament related was damaged.

A real coach would be nice.

Well they just fired Monty Williams and Thibs is likely to leave after this season...

Noel and a lottery pick? Haha...
If I could just build a contender around him it would look something like:
Conley / Mills
Middelton / Morrow
Aminu / Barnes
Draymond / Ed Davis
Davis / Dieng
