View Full Version : Do people seriously think Jimmy Butler doesn't deserve the max?

I saw a thread yesterday in which some posters said he isn't worth the max yet, have you seen some of the players that are demanding max contracts?

Jimmy Butler is getting the max no question, and with the cap jump its gonna be a really nice contract going forward.

He definitely deserves the max, especially considering the players teams have been offering the max to lately.

when u consider he's 25 and will get better and the capis going to increase by a ton, 16m/yr for butler is good

Imo it's only a safe bet because of the cap jump. If he took the QO, then hit UFA next year with the cap spike, I wouldn't give him the $20m max unless he improved.

16mill/year is an absolute steal for a player of his skill, he hasn't even peaked yet and hes so defensively sound.

I would give it to him for sure,

Think about a Smart/Bradley/Butler perimeter lineup defensively

Joe Johnson is/was a better go-to guy. And he was not worth the contract. Butler is a much better man defender and the cap is going up so maybe in the new environment this creates he will be worth that money. But the way the cap is now I wouldn't want to be paying him max money. I would reserve that kind of money for a guy that can carry my team on offense.

Well yeah the Celtics should be overpaying imo, they've got the pics to get rid of contracts too... I bet Philly would take Wallace for number 33 & 46. I'd even give them 28 instead of 33 if they wanted it. Then the Celts would have 30m guaranteed money, plus Crowders cap hold (sub 200k) & the holds for the pick(s)... Would leave 35m+, could cut Pressey & Babb, maybe squeak out enough for say Butler & Aldridge...

JJ isn't as good a scorer and hasn't been for like 3 years and Butler is on another world defensively. Plus I'm pretty sure max for Butler is 16m.

how does he not?? he's making the GOAT look like MJ agaist the Knicks in 93 ( a ball hogging inefficient chucker)

too bad Lebron doesn't have a teammate averaging 23/7/5/2 on 50% to carry him

um. no they wouldn't

They took Kirilenko and Grainger for less. Traded the RoY for a pick they won't get this year. Why wouldn't they?

It's not even a question. He's easily a max player and it will look like a bargain in a couple years.

I hope that happens. Before the celtics made the push for the playoffs I kept thinking that they were the best fit for towns.

Stick w trading Bradley and a 2nd for Calderon, Hardaway jr and a pick

He's worth $28m/yr IMO

Don't really think he's worth the max but then again I don't really think my boy Kawhi is worth it either. Yet both excellent players, truly. Two way impact. Will they get the max? Probably - and I understand why. But getting it and being worth it are two different things. Its pretty subjective though. If these players are team-players with any semblance of foresight hopefully they won't handcuff their respective franchises asking for the full, maximum salary allowed and sign contracts with some flexibility and team structure in mind.
