View Full Version : Is Dirk's signature leg kick a travel?

So everyone knows Dirk's shot where he takes his knee up to create space and falls away as he shoots, now I had a quick question, I have seen kids pull this in a pick up game and I called travel, they tried to argue with me but the reason I called travel was because:

1. they stopped their dribble.
2. They lifted their PIVOT foot off the ground and used their non pivot foot to fall back on.

I came home and watched a couple videos of Dirk doing it, he does the same thing in about 50 percent of the videos i see him take that leg up fadeway shot, he stops his dribble, plants his pivot foot, then lifts his pivot foot up and falls back on his "free" non pivot foot, once you lift your pivot foot up(the one grounded for good) and you already stopped your dribble, that's a travel....right? If so, why isent it called more often?

You can lift your pivot if you get rid of the ball (ie, shoot it) before the pivot lands.

You actually call traveling in a pick up game? Do you call charges and blocks too?
