Cauley-Stein emerged as one of the best defensive players in college basketball this season.

Pacers are DREAMING if they think they can get Willie. Maybe they might trade up for him but they have trash pieces...

Kings will get him at 6/7

Yeah, I don't know how Bird plans to get him but apparently he's gonna try.

Dude is so limited offensively has a looooong way to go in that respect as he is only good on one side of the ball and not even a great rebounder for his size either.

Karl towns is a way better player and prospect with way more upside.

I read somewhere that he ran speed drills faster than Russell Westbrook

So are the Kings wanting to play him at PF? Do you think he'll be better as a C or a PF?

No big man has ever recorded a quicker time in the lane agility drill, which assesses body control and change of direction ability. And with a 147-inch maximum vertical reach, few bigs even come close to Cauley-Stein's length.

But Cauley-Stein athleticism doesn't only shine in his practice shorts. John Calipari has used his bouncy big man as a defensive stopper by having him harass the opponent's best player, regardless of their position. The 21-year-old has the lateral quickness to defend at least three positions in the NBA, though he can defend all five in college while wearing a blindfold. Big men should not be able to stay with NBA-quality guards like Grant.

It could be similar to how the Clippers run their offense with Blake and Deandre

Play WCS in a pick and roll, lobbing fashion like Deandre... He'd be killer on the break too given his athleticism which is historically elite. On defense he'd be able to switch on defense and lock up anyone from Marc Gasol (trash)... to Kevin Durant... to Stephen Curry

Ill give you Gasol and MAYBE Durant. I think we're forgetting how good of a ball handler KD is and how tall he is. He's probably almost as tall as WCS and has a long reach himself.

Now Curry? I'm not sure about him locking up Curry. Curry is an excellent ballhandler and can get his shot off against anybody.

Of course in all situations good offense will always beat good defense. WCS has an incredibly rare combination of specific athleticism.... The prototypical non hand-checking era defender... Long, quick, can recover very fast... I think he might have trouble with more physical players, but he should be able to contain the quick, shooting types.

He has a little young Dennis Rodman in him when it comes to his combination of size, length and defensive instincts. If he can learn how to do anything offensively and/or become an elite rebounder (seems more likely), he has star potential.

Miles Plumlee with WCS wingspan is an allstar

Edit wrong plumlee

Let's be real about WCS, he's a freak athlete and a committed defender. He's got one really important skill that looks like a guarantee. That gives him a very high floor...he's a safe pick (injury risks inherent to all picks aside).

He's tough and he"s far from a stiff on offense. He'll figure out a way to stay on the floor on that end.

Putting him next to Cousins will allow he Kings to give the most energy intensive dirty work to WCS whenever possible. DMC will be able to focus on wrecking ass on offense.

I said I'd take him in the top 5 months ago.

He's the real deal, and barring injury, you're going to get 12 years of consistent hussle, rebounding, and defense out of him.

Pair him with a PG to throw lobs, and his offense is just abbonus.

Spot on Jim-meister.

The league ain't about scoring bigs. Atleast... Traditional style ones. WCS represents everything you'd want in a center for the modern NBA. The only types he'd have problems with are guys as big and stronger than him, yet as main focal scoring options... they are few.

This idea that the top 5 picks are locked is ridiculous. (Towns/okafor Russell/mudiay and Winslow @5).

Sure okafor and towns and prob Russell are all top 5 locks, but WCS, porzingis, and Mario are all 3 guys that could jump into the 5 depending how the order shakes out.

This is based off what? :oldlol: and 100m is franchise player money, he is not anywhere near a franchise player. Absolute max 12m per year kind of player depending on his nba performance. Has ZERO offensive game. Dude would be playing d2 basketball if he were 6'4/6'5.

WCS looks like a skinnier, taller cousins with the beard.

Anyway, it's not really that he's looked lackluster. He played behind a top 5 C in Demarcus Cousins and has Karl as a coach. Karl isn't a rookie fanatic. WCS will probably be solid in 2-3 years.

He's supposed to be able to guard "all 5 positions" and he can't shift to PF? Wasnt WCS starting earlier? Now he can't even start with Cousins out?

Can't be too harsh on him since he's a rookie but he is 22 and was billed as the most NBA ready big man in the draft. Statistically his on ball defense has been worse than Jah and his overall defense has been worse than KAT and Porzingis.

I was a believer in WCS going into the draft and I'm not going to give up on the guy yet, but it seems like he might not care that much about basketball... or at least that's the impression I get when I watch him play, real or perceived. He has all of the athleticism and size in the world, but if he doesn't care, it won't matter.

He could also have a Whiteside-like trajectory, where he toils for years and then, all of a sudden, it clicks.

Agreed

I have a feeling the money and the fame might have gotten to him a little... He came into camp unfit... He seems to be the type of player that needs the right environment around him

Although, he has been at the blunt of George Karl's lineup decisions this season, and injuries wearing us thin

He was brought to this team to play alongside Cousins, and when he has, it has been good... Our defense has much larger issues than WCS... He has actually been solid... Guards never try and take him off the dribble, his positioning and awareness is great, but he's the type of player that'll look a whole lot better when you're winning. Nobody cares for the things you can't see on the stat sheet when you're losing. He'll come round once we sort our defense out
