View Full Version : So Kevin Durant is 26 years old.......

Lensanity

When LeBron was 25 years old in his final year of his first stint in Cleveland the entire sports world was 100% fixated on the fact that he did not have a ring. Bush did 9/11. It had literally become such a big deal that he had no rings that Facebook, Twitter, ISH, etc was absolutely flooded with ring jokes every time his name was mentioned. Everybody would day things like yes Lebron is a great player but.....no rings.

Kevin Durant is supposed to be one of if not the greatest player of this generation yet the fact that he is ringless is completely irrelevant, but why? LeBron never had a fraction of the help in Cleveland that KD does in OKC. Even a non NBA fan in 2010 knew that LeBron had no rings because it was such a huge deal, yet many non NBA fans today that know who Kevin Durant is probably don't know if he had won a championship or not.

What gives? Why is society so ****ing retarded? Why are the same ******s that said Kobe was better than LeBron because ringzzzzzzz now saying KD>LeBron?

It's because KD wasn't as big a douchebag to put himself on a pedestal and claim to be greatest... or a 'chosen one' or a 'king' or the next MJ.

It's because KD isn't in the same tier. When Ibaka went down in the playoffs, everyone gave him a pass against the Spurs.

When Bosh went down in 2012? It was still ring or bust.

Great players have great expectations.

It's called hype/marketing.

LeBron was probably the most hyped NBA prospect to ever live. ESPN was showing his high school games on television. He was labeled King James. He was called the Chosen One. He was suppose to be the next best thing since the icon Michael Jordan. He was suppose to take Jordan's thrown and declare himself the best to ever play the game.

He was marketed and hyped so much that even non NBA fans knew his name. Then, he entered the league and blew the doors off. Remarkably, he actually somewhat lived up to the hype. He set the league on fire as a rookie and promised to bring his city a championship. The world now fixated on LeBron James. He was now the clear face of the league and labeled the best player in the world.

Kevin Durant simply wasn't on that pedestal. He wasn't the future proclaimed king standing before the thrown. Durant was simply the servant who managed to climb the ranks.

You realize Lebron never made these claims, yes?

You could fault him for buying in to it (though it would be hard not to given the amount of exposure he had at such a young age), but that was all the media.

Durant's first finals > Lebron's, and it's not even close.

With James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Serge Ibaka on his team. Very impressive :applause:  Jet fuel cant melt steel beams. How dare LeBron get swept by a Spurs team with prime Duncan and Ginobili with the great Boobie Gibson on his team!

2011 Thunder was 10 times more talented than any Cleveland team LeBron played for literally ever. No excuses.

Also, Lebron was fantastic in last years Finals. Wade was just a total piece of crap and the Spurs were amazing.

MJ, Kobe and Lebron sit in a class of their own in terms of talent, controversy and hype.

And yet Jordan sits at 6/6, Kobe at 5/7, and bron at 2/5. Now finals wins aren't everything and Lebron is a better basketball player than Kobe ever was in that he does more things better, but anyone that has a sex life isn't putting Bron anywhere near Jordan. About the closest he's been is holding his kum rag. He still isn't even on Duncan's level.

Please stop talking about Kobe in terms of talent because he's not on Bron's level. Simply put, Bron does more things better than Kobe, and is more complete and simply a better basketball player period. Getting carried by Shaq to increase your ring count doens't mean that much. Jordan however isn't being touched by either of those betas.

He might've gotten a pass if they were all 22-23 years old like Durant, Westbrook, Harden, and Ibaka, going up against a better, more experienced, playoff tested "Big 3" with the best player in the planet.

Not sure why people like to just glance over this when talking about the 2012 Thunder. They were historically young and would've been the youngest or one of the 2-3 youngest teams to win a championship...on their first try pretty much. On the other side, you had the best player in the world in LeBron, Wade still pretty much in his prime and playing well, and Bosh was back to 100% by the Finals -- all three were in the heart of the "sweet spot" years for All-Star and All-Time great caliber players to play at or near their peak and win championships.

Lebron was 22-23 in the 2007 Finals with Boobie and Ilgauskas lead by Mike Brown vs a Spurs team with Pop and Manu+Duncan in their primes yet he gets criticized for losing that series. At least the Thunder had a chance.

No one gives LeBron flak for losing that series, or at least no sane person. What he does get flak for is how poorly he played, but that doesn't even bother me given how young he was and how good the Spurs were defensively.

This is the essence of it.

Even before Bran went to Miami, the hordes and hordes of Kobe's uber protective betas were attacking Lebron mindlessly and in perpetuity to keep his reputation from potentially surpassing Kobe's.

Of course, once Bran jilted teams like NY and Chi in free agency, those fans jumped on the saltwagon as well.

Lebron was bigger star at 17 then Durant is now.....

Lebron had much more hype and delivered IMO...

Lebron was more polarizing and much more well known.....and thus had much more people talking about him, more expectations....thus more fans/ haters..

people / general / average sports fans were comparing him to alltime greats.....and to the majority of sports fans ( not the 1% of online fans who argue about.4% FG difference) it comes down to winning.

Durant was kinda on that level ( not exactly) but lost to Lebron in the Finals....he steadily has slipped ( meaningless league MVP aint sh!t to the average fan....winning is the bottom line) ever since.
