This is something people should be adamant about putting an end to.
Emergency meeting got called for next weekend though. We'll see what happens then.

funny thing is i guarantee you another terror plot, likely from ISIS, is going to happen sooner than later. once that happens depending on proportion of lives lost, you can bet there will be government protection trumping laws of privacy. i'm sure the dumbass conspiracy theorists will pretend its all the governments doing, but reality is ISIS hasn't really taken advantage of what they could yet, and now that we have stepped up our efforts against them they are bound to use terrorist tactics domestically.
we've been real lucky so little has happened since 9/11 tbh. its sad how all of the surveillance program positives are unnoticed that prevented terrorist attacks since the average american is dumb as a rock.

Mass hysteria and fear, even if unjustified, leads to invasion of privacy. That is common knowledge.
The surveillance program positives are unnoticed because they have been ineffective.

The US government already has enough power, thanks - it doesn't need any more to catch terrorists - these are simply fear-driven power grabs that have very little to do with actual terrorism. It's simply not possible to catch every individual when any person can buy the materials for and make a bomb if they so desire.
The US has far less to worry about than European countries dealing with large influxes of migrants fleeing countries, with potential IS members hidden within - that could be a real security threat. The US isn't really dealing with one, and has incessantly used terrorism as an excuse to expand arbitrary state power.

I agree. People should be openly supportive of the people in Congress who have the courage to be against extending it any longer. It needs to go on the scrap heap of history like so many other bad laws passed through fear mongering.
