The guy is dumb for accepting a job in neighborhoods where his kind is seen as prey. These ghettos are just a step above the African Serengeti. It's survival of the fittest out there, and anything that stands out tends to be met with curiosity, and then tested by the locals.

I have a friend that worked for facility that worked with troubled youths in lieu of putting them in an adult prison when they turned 18 in juvenile hall. Part of his job was picking up and dropping off the "kids", as some were allowed to go home on weekends. After a while he refused to go to the black neighborhoods at night. He told his boss, he'd go to the Latino barrios and white trash neighborhoods but not the black ones. He said everytime he'd pull up to a kid's house at night, people came out of the woodwork and surrounded his fan. He feared for his safety. So he was demoted, but he eventually got the EMT job he was training for.

This incident is the same thing that happened to Reginald Denny, just 23 years later. It's no secret that Reginald was pulled out of his truck and nearly killed because he was white. It's no secret that the guy in this clip was nearly killed because he was white.

I don't necessarily think this was a hate crime, but because he was white he stood out. Anything that stands out in these tough ghettos will be met with curiosity, then eventually tested for weaknesses and preyed upon. It could have been a white guy, Asian guy, gay guy, or black or Hispanic man in a business suit and a nice car. The longer they remain in the area, the greater the chance some scumbags with too much time on their hands, will find a way to relieve their boredom and profit by any means necessary. I feel sorry for the good people who have to live in this type of environment.
